Seeing his facial expressions during the debate and turning a layup of a topic like abortion into illegal immigrants getting raped by their brothers and sisters isn’t gonna give confidence to these people

Instilling confidence and rallying the public behind your political program is one of the primary roles of the job, and Biden's recent performance is an example of him being incapable of doing so to a viable degree. He's having severe trouble completing the job interview, much less doing the job itself. His people are even floating the idea of him promising to retire immediately after winning, in which case why the hell is he even running and what the hell kind of democracy is this. The fact that y'alls new line is that "at least Biden isn't worse than Trump!", the guy who is supposed to be the biggest existential threat to American democracy we've ever seen and the new American Hitler is alarming. If America was smart enough to look past Joe Biden’s current shortcomings and focus on policy, Trump wouldn’t have been the president or the current Republican nominee. The optics for Biden is way too bad. He needs to step down.

It's very unlikely that Biden actually has dementia. But perception is 9/10s of reality.
The real issue isn't Biden's physical health, it's that he's unpopular (for various reasons) and too elderly to campaign effectively and make his case.

The assumption you’re making is that swing voters are more concerned about that over other issues.
No one on this sub is a swing voter and they’re obsessing over it.
His age is important, but dems are doing what they did in Bowman’s race.
Spend time combating the du jour media take and not campaigning on the issues.
He convinces people he’s capable by campaigning on the issues. Not having interviews discussing whether he’s competent.
Yeah that’s the thing even if he doesn’t have dementia he seems to be too old to be able to articulate fully in a debate how dangerous Trump is which is the worst part
He had a few layups during the debate but not only didn’t take advantage but would bring up a topic like immigration which is right in Trumps wheelhouse

Agreed but he had that chance in the biggest most important platform for those swing voters in the debate and he couldn’t even articulate his policies or Trumps dangerous policies

I think Allan Lichtman has it right. Biden should be the nominee.
They have two more debates.
If all he is doing is saying Trump bad and I’m not too old he’s not really campaigning.
He needs to be reminding people of the wins he’s had and the ways their life is better and will continue to be better.
Inflation is cooling so a lot of the concerns folks have might not be a blocker in November.
