:mjlol: I Am is half a great album and half trash...literally the dictionary diefinition of mid

Great:
NYSoM 2
Hate Me Now
Small World
Favor for a Favor
We Will Survive
Life is What You Make It
Nas Is Like
Undying Love

Meh:
You Won't See Me Tonight
Ghetto Prisoners

Trash:
I Want to Talk To You
Big Things
Dr. Knockboot
K-I-S-S-I-N-G (probably okay in a vacuum but it's surrounded by trash and not good enough to overcome it lol)
Money Is My bytch

KISSING is a good track, thats what i mean, peoples ears are inclined differently when it comes to Nas, You Wont See Me Tonight, KISSING, I Want To Talk To You all good songs.

It literally got 4.5 in The Source pre Benzino era lol

And not the bootleg either

A lot of weirdos can't stand Nas doing anything but rap about the block on throwback Pete Rock beats, thats why a song like You Wont See Me Tonight or You Owe Me can be called Meh.

nikkas don't like women, thank God Nas strayed away a bit because in 2024, You Owe Me is one of the biggest songs in his discography, should have strayed away more, and say fukk these backpack rap fans.

You giving Nas a participation trophy, songs like You Won't See Me Tonight get heat because they're straight up not good. They're not in Nas' lane and it shows in the quality.

Like this nikka getting on a beat like You Owe Me and talkin "Owe me like 40 acres to blacks" about a shorty fukkin him for ice...brother what are you doing :childplease:

It was the 99 version of J Cole talking about Kaepernick and police brutality on that Miguel song :mjlol:

It doesn't matter, time has shown that women fukk with You Owe Me, that was the target audience and it ticked that box, thats why its trending today 24 years after it came out.

Thats why in every Nas concert that song gets one of the biggest receptions, the song hit the mark for its audience and stood the test of time.

Also the lyrics are lowkey genius, i respect a rapper who can throw reperation bars in a genuine club song, doesn't take anything from it, in fact its a talking point you laugh about.

Also Rnb songs is Nas lane, he has some of the best Rnb Rap collabs in rap, and consistently, he has influenced more Rnb/Neo Soul artists probably more than any rapper of his generation.

This is a nuanced conversation. Nas is my GOAT but Kendrick has the best album discography of a solo act in hip hop up until Mr. Morale.

Nas didn't have a 4-5 album run of classics. Now song for song he is untouched, in terms of peaks, he is untouched. As a Duo Outkast was the closest thing to having a perfect rap discography up to Idlewild. As a soloist Kendrick is. Nas is the dude who will always have stand out stellar cuts even on a mid album so you still get some vue as a listener but he wasn't always carefully crafting solid cohesive bodies of work. That's why his one producer albums run with HIT was fantastic. We got some focused cohesive albums that easily sit with his best shyt. The difference is if I look at the overall picture he has some misses. So far Kendrick only got Mr. Morale.

I loved Mr Morale the way

If we should compare any 90s hip hop artist discography to Kendrick's discography it's definitely OutKast

Kendricks catalog rivals Billy Woods or Death Grips from his era

Nas rivals Jays, Ghostfaces etc.

His slump in the mid 2000s is a fair argument but what was Kdot doing then?

I say if we start from 2011 nas still wins 🤣

Nas is my favorite rapper but nobody is seeing Kendrick as far as catalog.
Nas arguably has the best rap album ever, but Kendrick arguably has the best album ever, in any genre.

I voted Nas. I simply enjoy Nas music more.

I will say Kendrick Control verse is my favorite rap verse of the 2010s. Man oh man, what a verse :banderas:

Their most commercial albums get the most replays from me It Was Written and Damn. But IWW > Damn so that's the metric I'll go by :yeshrug:

The only way to make it fun debate is to handicap Nas and start from 2011. It’s debatable then. GKMC would be the best album by either but after that it’s debatable. LIG and Magic have strong cases to be over TPAB as an overall body of work. The highs are definitely higher on TPAB though. I’m def taking KD 3 over Damn. The rest Id have to revisit and give some serious thought.
