Wasn't the same thing said about Bo Nix and Penix last year, and hell people were even laughing at the thought of McCarthy going in the 1st round and yet QB needy teams drafted them. Basically we as fans have no idea what these scouts are thinking and you going so hard that he won't be a top pick is just as dumb as people swearing they will.
But we do know what they’re thinking. If you need a QB you have to draft one

He's the anti-Anthony Richardson in the sense he's less 5 tool athletically, but he can be a solid QB because of the poise. His value is more in his intangibles. I don't think he'll be top 3 in a Pat/Josh/Lamar league, but he can be Goff level in a situation with talent to throw to.
Agree
He's clearly a winner and has a will to win. Can read coverage, throws with anticipation and good pocket presence

“Solid” QBs get thrown to the wolves and they don’t go #1

This is where fans’ ugly discourse rears its head. Dak Prescott was 2nd in mvp voting and let some folk tell it hes trash. Or, Go look at Gardner Minshew’s career stats. Or Tyrod Taylor. They can make all the throws and have presence and anticipation etc yet they just aren’t good enough. People are absolutely delusional of how hard it is to succeed at QB in the NFL.

Even people who ‘like’ Shaduer, when they describe what they like, they are describing a bare minimum NFL starting QB, a game manager, a bridge QB

NYC (but PGH will forever be home)
His best comp, at least to me, would be Kenny Pickett.

KP was a:
  • meh athlete
  • meh in the pocket
  • Very average arm
But he was lauded for his poise and accuracy. Similarly to Shadeur, he also just chucked the ball to one of the best WR's in the NCAA (i.e. Addison).

So he is going to have to be super smart with pre-reads, etc. in order to even crack the top 15 list.

He also is going to have to show a ton of humility. But having Deion Sanders as your coach and father, this will probably be the biggest headwind.

I don’t think he’s as good as Tua in the pocket. I do think he is more durable though with a comparable arm. Maybe better with the anticipation. Definitely not better than Joe Burrow.

As a prospect though, Tua was refined and way ahead. Even with a brutal hip injury and two ankle injuries dude still went top 5. I can’t see Shadeur getting injured and having the same draft position.

I honestly think Shaduer goes maybe 2nd round. I get the vibe most QB-needy teams are not really looking at this year to go QB. I can see some trade downs happening and maybe from there gets drafted.
How he gonna go from projected #1 overall to 2nd round? :russ: He would have to thro8w 8 picks in the Alamo bowl.

If he’s the #1 pick, it’s an insanely weak draft.

I defended dude in the Caleb Williams thread, but they’re tiers apart.

If I were a QB-needy team this is the draft to build up other positions and set up the future drafts via trade downs. Then the next couple drafts with all the bossed up QB’s go for my franchise signal caller then.

Trade down, pick up McMillan and OL. That’s the A+ move this draft. Next draft or two go for Dylan Raiola, Arch Manning or another insane QB. Raiders can potentially have Bowers, McMillan and Arch Manning and a nice OL protecting all of that if they set it up right.

2025 NFL draft Big Board rankings: Mel Kiper's top prospects

1. Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado*

Height: 6-1 | Weight: 185 | Prev. rank: 1

2024 stats through 12 games: 92 catches, 1,152 receiving yards, 14 receiving TDs, 33 tackles, 10 pass breakups, 4 interceptions, 1 forced fumble

Hunter has a great feel for the game on offense and defense, and he has played a whopping 1,356 snaps over 12 games this season. I really think he has a chance to play both sides of the ball early in his pro career and make an impact both ways, though I'm ranking him as a receiver right now. The offensive and defensive coordinators for the team that ultimately drafts him are going to be battling each other to use him.

Hunter has tremendous hand-eye coordination and elite ball skills. His physical traits and quickness are off the charts, but he also thinks about the game at a high level. He is a highly competitive prospect who works hard to maximize his potential. He had three TD catches and an interception against Oklahoma State in Week 14.

i

2. Abdul Carter, OLB, Penn State

Height: 6-3 | Weight: 259 | Prev. rank: 3

2024 stats through 13 games: 79 tackles, 10 sacks, 49 pressures, 20 tackles for loss, 13 run stops, 1 forced fumble

Carter is versatile and has plenty of experience effectively operating as an off-ball linebacker, helping him crack 60 tackles in three straight seasons at Penn State. But the hope this season was he would make a dent in opponents' game plans as a pass rusher off the edge. Mission accomplished. Carter has the traits to wreak havoc there, getting pressure on 18.3% of his pass-rush snaps. He is instinctive and fast flying to the football. Carter's 20 tackles for loss this season rank third in the nation.

EDITOR'S PICKS

i

3. Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado

Height: 6-2 | Weight: 215 | Prev. rank: 4

2024 stats through 12 games: 74.2% completion rate, 3,926 passing yards, 35 TD passes, 8 interceptions, 4 rushing TDs

You won't find a tougher or more resilient quarterback prospect than Sanders, who has taken 90 sacks over the past two seasons but still puts up really strong numbers. I'm always impressed watching him throw on the move, rolling either left or right. He is very accurate in those spots and has the arm to drive the ball. When his mechanics and footwork are sound, he can pick apart a defense. And while he's not necessarily a major rushing threat, he can keep the chains moving with his legs when there is an opening.

Sanders cracked 400 passing yards for the second time this season and threw five TD passes against Oklahoma State.

i

4. Mason Graham, DT, Michigan*

Height: 6-3 | Weight: 320 | Prev. rank: 5

2024 stats through 12 games: 52 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 26 pressures, 14 run stops

I love Graham's technique. His leverage gives him an advantage at the point of attack, and interior offensive linemen struggle with his power and quickness. Graham has strong and active hands, and he has proved effective against the run and pass from inside. He had two sacks against Minnesota in September but has managed just 1.5 the rest of the season. He recently declared for the draft.

i

5. Will Johnson, CB, Michigan*

Height: 6-2 | Weight: 202 | Prev. rank: 2

2024 stats through six games: 21 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 2 interceptions, 3 pass breakups, 2 defensive TDs

Johnson is so instinctive in coverage, and his ability to read quarterbacks jumps out when you watch him. He has great quickness in his transition, allowing him to make plays on the ball. Johnson has returned both of his interceptions this season for touchdowns, and you can see those instincts throughout his first pick-six in Michigan's opener against Fresno State -- when he jumped a screen and took the ball 86 yards to the house. He now has nine career picks.

Johnson missed the team's past five games with a toe injury and decided to enter the draft.

Got to think beyond the mock drafts and media.

We’ve seen players get mocked top 10 go in the 3rd round. Truth is how the draft plays out affects a whole lot, not to mention some of these teams’ front office think further into the future than most people account for.

There are some other mocks that have Cam Ward going top, while that mock doesn’t even mention dude top 5.
