It’s a combination of bad offensive line play and D coordinators catching up to modern offenses. Most defenses play 2 high safety now because they know teams aren’t going to commit to the run, forcing these young QBs to actually read defenses
This is the answer. Defenses have made the adjustments to combat the leagues obsession with passing. Offenses will need to start valuing the Running Back and the running game again in order to force those safeties up. It's actually not a bad thing. Offensive Coordinators need to step up.

We were spoiled with great QBs. Manning, Brees, Brady, Rodgers played at insanely high level for a long time. Even second tier QBs like Romo, Stafford, Ryan, Luck, Roethlisberger, Rivers had elite moments. Only Mahomes is truly a special QB today to me

And defenses have gotten better. Their more disciplined and better coached
Allen, Lamar and Burrow are clearly special

That's the answer
80% of it is due to offensive line play
20% defensive coordinators catching up

OP would've been cookin' had he said: It’s time to admit that the NFL has an offensive line crisis that isn’t getting any better.

-Limited time and contact during practices at the NFL and college level. It impacts the offense more (especially offensive linemen)
-Defensive linemen are typically much better athletes than offensive linemen
-There's not that many "above-average" offensive linemen

It’s a league issue .

They went too far with the analytics/PFF shyt.

They devalued the hell out of everything except for QBs,WRs and OT’s.

The thought was you can just grab anyone to play RB,G and TE’s are cool if they’re basically an extra WR.

Over the past couple of years you had the analytics community laugh at the Lions for picking Jahmyr Gibbs, call Derrick Henry a bad fit because he doesn’t catch the ball, and act like Joe Mixon and Josh Jacobs are easily replaceable …all of those RBs had had big impacts on their teams …because running the ball matters .lets not even discuss how the Giants treated Saquon and what he doing in Philly rn

They thought you can just pass the ball the around like it’s 7 on 7 and just place any RB in the backfield . Put the entire game on the QB shoulders …. Well no shyt the QBs look ass because they’re not built for that.

It’s time to admit that the NFL has a QB crisis that isn’t getting any better.

These young NFL QBs ain’t it. CJ has regressed, Jayden and Caleb are struggling right now. If the best rookie QB is Bo Nix, there is a big issue with how these college QBs are being prepared for the pros.

These games today have almost been unwatchable compared to yesterday’s college football slate.
You talking about rookies and 2nd year QBs. It's no come to Jesus moment they just need development and team building. The stars right now are Allen, Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson, Herbert, Hurts, Goff and are fine.

Im so proud of Joe Mixon. I always felt he was a top 10 back in the league. Leaving Cincy has been a revival for him.

Give them time

Even Bryce young been looking serviceable. Do you remember how bad Josh Allen was his rookie year? A sophomore slump for cj was expected

The real solution is teams reinvesting in the run game. Look at the lions, Ravens and eagles, they have strong running backs and that’s why the offense been lights out. Meanwhile Mahomes struggling because his running back is injured and the skill players are meh

The trickle down effect of bad line play has a bigger impact more than anything.

When I saw the Jets Brian Winters, PFF worst ranked guard, being trotted out every week to “block” for Geno week after week 10 years ago watching the all-22 cam, I realized that rhe league has lost a step with line play.

The athleticism at D-line now combined with these spread offense bred lineman climbing the ranks have hurt NFL offense more than anything. Are there anymore NASTY Eric Williams or Conrad Dobler maulers? We dont even see hot heads anymore that scare teams besides Trent Williams.

Its bad now. Plain bad.

never in the history of teh nfl has there been a bunch of great qbs

relax
I remember a time when Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, McNabb, Romo, Rivers, etc. All played and that isn't naming everyone I could have. Real talk McNabb is probably the 'worst' on on the list and he would be the second best QB in the league right now if he played. There is definitely a talent difference between the two eras.

I don't think it's just the QB position, the entire skill level of the NFL is not what it once was tbh.

:mjlol: mcnabb would not be better than

Patrick Mahomes, Joe burrow, Lamar Jackson, Jared Goff, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, matthew stafford

hell the qbs I listed above are better than or on par with the roethlisberger, romo, rivers

burrow and mahomes barring injuries will prob retire with numbers like rodgers, manning
