he seems to have lost some of the explosiveness in his movements and was going thru the motions in the aew stuff i've seen of him. 2016-2018 Omega at his best imo, from doing mat based stuff w Zack Sabre, to strong style shyt w Ishii, fukkery matches w Yano, flippy shyt or storytelling shyt w Ibushi/Okada. The decline I think started w the Tanahashi match at WK imo im not saying he is washed but he doesn't seem motivated to me.
what do you think
@Jmare007 @Cobratron
I mentioned either here before or in another AEW thread, I think he is happiest in Japan and got roped into this by his friends and is already stressed out by being a VP. He's said it's a tougher position than he thought it would be. I predict he'll get out of his 4 year contract early and run back to NJPW full-time. Kenny isn't built for a U.S.-based weekly rasslin show/company, IMO, and that's fine because he's amazing in New Japan.
.
It's an interesting case. He clearly took a step back from the stuff he was doing in 16-18 but as Cobra said, the lack of work might be the main factor here. We gotta wait till the TNT show if he truly is unmotivated or if it's just a case of not wrestling enough and being occupied on other stuff.
BUT, we also gotta take into account he's also been wrestling less and less the last 3 years. This is breakdown according to cagematch:
2016: 136 matches (117 in New Japan)
2017: 92 matches (73 in New Japan)
2018: 62 matches (54 in New Japan)
2019: 8 matches so far, probably gonna end up with 15-20 barring injury.
Cobra might be onto something when he says he'll try to get out of his 4 year contract early. I'm not sure he wants to wrestle 100+ dates to an audience he clearly doesn't feel as connected with as with the Japanese. But we'll see I guess, two years of a light schedule might also help him out to go all out for AEW in this first run too.
