:mjlol: NaS and Camel stans are the worst.

:mjlol: My God… so Pete is a hater and a loser and got nothing going on because he’s asking for what he’s owed?

:mjlol: @Illeye buckmatic get in here, breh. Talk some sense into your fellow fakkit ass NaS stans.
Pete Rock is properly credited for his contributions for the album. So whatever he’s talking about is some other shyt that’s not explained. So we don’t know. Another thing is. Pete Rock has a known history of this bullshyt. Also. No one said he shouldn’t get paid what he’s owed if he’s owed something.

when its RZA its 'aww man he should PAY! shame on the Abbott!'

Nas? nahhh Pete must b mistaken, rap fans funny af
What are u talking about? If Pete is owed something he should be paid but it’s not Nas’ responsibility to pay him. That’s the label. And from what it looks like the lawyer is saying. It’s a label issue. They are reaching out to Nas’ team. But I’m perplexed on what Nas’ team would be able to do to help the situation being that Nas isn’t on the label anymore unless there’s something I’m missing.

Rock’s team admits the producer had been getting publishing royalties — which compensate the creators of the composition and lyrics of a song — for the Illmatic track. (The album has since been certified double platinum.) But they claim he had not been paid any master royalties since the track’s 1994 release. Producers typically get points on the master; the amount often varies — depending on their clout — but it comes out of the artist’s royalty share. (Since he sings the hook, Rock is also credited as a featured performer and is entitled to additional royalties from that; Evans says those have not been accounted for, either.)

So this has nothing to do with any side deal between Nas and Pete Rock. Sony should be paying these royalties but they told Rock to basically take it up with Nas for whatever reason? That doesn’t make any sense

Yea this is what’s confusing about it. And if there isn’t a lawsuit. That means Pete Rock went to the media first on purpose.

Pete declined to answer certain questions, so the picture isn't clear enough.

We called this on page one. The song is a pie. Artist gets some, producers get some, sampled artist/estate gets some. Major label artists got nothing to do with doling that money out, it’s all on the label. I’m sure Pete got a nice percentage since he was big at the time. And he admitted to getting publishing so I have no idea why he isn’t getting his master royalties.

Wouldn’t be stunned at all if we find out later that Pete sold his rights for cash years ago…..

What are master royalties and who distributes them?

Also reading the article, it sounds like they don’t want to go through a lawsuit. This to me feels like a shake down. Time will reveal.

There are all types of royalties, master royalties, mechanical royalties, song writers royalties, Producer royalties, performance royalties. Shyt gets complicated quick. And I'm not even completely positive but Pete and his team need to holler at a performance rights organizations like ASCAP or BMI not even the record label.

Where the fukk is y'all Nas Stans, talking all that shyt and you don't know a fukkin thing, talking about Pete Rock begging Nas to do tracks, when it was Nas team that came to Pete Rock for Lost Tapes 2 and when Pete asked bout Royalties they said they will get it resolved.

You fake ass detective's in here thought you found something when it showed Pete Rock is getting royalties from that song, the team admit that but it's only publishing royalties

But Pete Rock is not getting his Master Royalties and producer's get that which comes out the artist royalties he received, meaning it comes out of Nas royalty check he gets from the song:mjlol:

And Pete Rock is entitled to more royalties since he sang on the track.

Pay that Man!
