That's why I said in my other post they should mobilize around helping the most vulnerable.

The lowest income and middle-income people should be getting help offrip.
And those who choose to stay after all options have been exhausted, have only themselves to blame
but that should only be considered after we have a real means of getting people away from danger.

If anything, Katrina should've been a national wakeup call but there was so much racism that a clear and obvious infrastructure
based issue was handwaved away as people just being "too dumb" instead of too poor with no real protections provided by
the state whether it was at the local, statewide or federal level.

In their defense, these people are dirt poor, were told only a day or two before and live in a region that has never had a hurricane like this. We got to be real here. If someone has only $200 to their name and thinks it's not gonna be that bad because it's never been that bad before, they're not gonna go.
agreed but this is where federal planning comes into play. people poor as shyt but there should be points egress before the storm hits. that area should be prepared with buses that can move people to designated safe zones away from the storm path and where supplies await. if folks want to stay after that, that's on them

Top 5 worst city lay outs in America. Sometimes I dont even be driving to atl and the traffic be ruining my trick. Jersey traffic is awful but it we have some of the population densest areas un America.
It’s why I‘m getting the fukk outta here in a few years, Atlanta traffic is 2nd to none besides maybe LA. I’m from Jersey too and it ain’t got shyt on ATL

Yep. Especially older people who aren't just gonna up and leave all their shyt behind. Living on the coast my whole life. It's like pulling teeth to get all these old people to evacuate before a major hurricane.
:francis:
They don't want to leave their house full of crap that can be replaced.

I remember a project I did on Katrina and an old couple that was in Mississippi at the time didn't want to leave because like you said, it's hard to leave everything behind and IIRC, one of the two was wheelchair-bound. Water ended up getting to their necks. They thought they were gonna die but, they ended up getting lucky and getting help. It just makes me mad because most of these states are Republican states. They're literally voting for racist cacs that don't give a fukk about Climate change, then they want the world to cry for them when they're affected.

I agree with that. The government has to shoulder the load. Because telling broke people that are living check to check to evacuate is not a winning strategy.

There are degrees to this. The technology to mitigate the damage from Katrina existed. Government neglect and corruption to simply maintain the levees made a bad situation worse.

Some of these people living in these remote areas want to be left alone for 364 non-hurricane days( this is why I laugh about people saying buy cheap homes in these rural areas). They don’t want government to be in their business ie noise complaints from neighbors or cars on lawn, but by the same token where you and I in a big city go to the ER for a bad cold. Many of these people know the nearest hospital is an hour or more away so they use home remedies and hope for the best.

There’s a trade-off for rural living. People used to being self-sufficient are going to be some of the hardest to get information to.

For the people living down south, I feel for all of y'all going through this hurricane. Devastating to see lives lost and property\infrastructure damage that will take years to rebuild.

shyt like that I,cannot fathom moving down south, especially in the age of climate change

How do you set up a safe zone when you don’t know where the storm will head? Those cones you see are estimates and numerous storms have deviated wildly from the most likely path.

There were MILLIONS of people in the projected path of this storm. Ain’t enough buses for that man.

I see what you trying to say but the logistics of it make no sense whatsoever.

I see line men tho so Hopefully power comes back soon
Yeah, Richmond County doesn’t have any water, at least my cousin doesn’t, but they have power. It’s either water no power, or power no water, then you gotta worry about clowns out here breaking into cars and siphoning gas, smh.
