:snoop: This shyt trash. Been out of power since 3am Friday, and supposedly the earliest we’ll get it back is Oct. 5th. Not to mention gas is a scarcity out here.

Breh, where are you?

Hopefully it’s not hot where you are. Jesus!

We should've been better prepared for this at both the state and federal level
there should be something way better than FEMA.
We have the technology to determine the strength of a storm well ahead of it landing.

So that entire period prior to the storm hitting should've been spent mobilizing and focusing on the most vulnerable populations.

It makes no sense that we can muster up billions in foreign aid when those same billions could've been
used to mobilize tens of thousands as a preventative measure.

It all feels way to reactionary in this high-tech age.

Bruh ain’t nothing you can do to prevent roads built on the side of a mountain from washing away when a 1000 year rain event hits.

Those folks live in valleys of mountains, where you think all that water is gonna rush through?

I was careful in my wording.
I never said they needed to create something to STOP forces of nature but instead:

As in, getting the necessary resources in place (National Guard, Doctors, Nurses, Firefighters etc.) to start things like
evacuations or even potentially fortifications early.

Obviously, they can't stop a massive flood or do some other herculean/superhuman thing but I definitely
feel it's within our power to move large amounts of people away from disaster.

We can replace the houses, fix the roads and replant the trees but we can never ever get those people back.

Problem is the weather people still can't always predict which areas will get massive flooding. Storms change direction, gain strength, hit other areas that weren't in the original path.

And a lot of people are stubborn and won't leave. Die trying to ride the storm out.

If you live at sea level you gonna flood eventually, i say move inland. I live in Colorado and we had one major flood in my lifetime but it was in the northern farm lands. Worse case scenario here is your basement gets flooded. fukk living in an area where hurricanes hit.

So true.

There's the unpredictable aspects and of course stubborn people.
I'm always shocked at the people who have the money to leave and potential save their lives that instead stick
around and drown.

You said prevent. You cant prevent that destruction in Asheville.

Also they told people to leave. You want to mobilize the military to go door to door and forcibly remove every person from Florida to Virginia? How the fukk would that even be possible? That’s millions of people Breh. How would you transport, house, and feed that many people in a week?

its obvious this country has substantial infrastructure issues in response to natural disasters. storms aren't preventable, but the loss of life can be and a response can be in place. but when folks are TOLD to leave, that's on them if they stay. i guess some folks have nowhere to go.

In their defense, these people are dirt poor, were told only a day or two before and live in a region that has never had a hurricane like this. We got to be real here. If someone has only $200 to their name and thinks it's not gonna be that bad because it's never been that bad before, they're not gonna go.

Yep. Especially older people who aren't just gonna up and leave all their shyt behind. Living on the coast my whole life. It's like pulling teeth to get all these old people to evacuate before a major hurricane.
:francis:
They don't want to leave their house full of crap that can be replaced.
