He’s going to have to brush up on his NFL knowledge and skills if that’s the route he wants to go as NFL fans won’t find his funny schtick and will pushback with the quickness.

Too big of a high profile sport and spot to fukk up and bring unwanted attention to himself.

They had like a hundred people on espn. Why do people gravitate towards SAS the most? Why is FT one of their highest rated shows? Why do automatically look for SAS when The Cowboys lose? Why is SAS meme’d and gif’s to death? You have to look at these things and realize espn got to pay up! They could let him walk but who would take over? Can you imagine the fallout if they let him walk? A lot of the people who complain about that network barely watches it so why even listen to them? They got to pay that man no matter what we think.

This means that Stephen A Smith is generating a ton of views for that network.

It also means that if that many people are tuning into Stephen A Smith for sports takes, then a significant part of the country does not know diddly shyt about what intelligent sports discussion should look like.

This is somewhat of a chicken or the egg scenario.
Is SAS on tv because people enjoy his takes? Or do people watch SAS simply because he's on tv...and really what choice are you being offered?

Who knows.
Screw ESPN and screw SAS.

Sports take talk and discussion don't generate views like that though compared to morning shows and other outlets. Don't forget a lot of those shows are just background noise that get played at sports bars and other venues. The casual audience just doesn't care for sports talk like that.

It's a reason why a lot of them have failed over the years when trying to make the jump from sports and into the mainstream and end up having to go back.

It's also why I keep saying that his schtick just doesn't work to the casual audience outside of sports as he doesn't have a sense of direction in what he wants to be.

One thing you cannot say about Stephen A is that people watch him just because he is on. He has earned everything he has at this point, starting all the way at the bottom.

ESPN has 3 channels of alternatives people can tune into if they don’t like Stephen A. They have put plenty of people in positions to succeed over the years and none of them rose to the occasion.

Have you taken a listen to sports talk radio? The stuff that gets ratings is the hot take radio. People want to hear Legend go off on Paul Finebaum or Joe from Pocono rant and rave on the Mets instead of a detailed breakdown of plays. You gotta dive into specific niche podcasts to get detailed sports talk now.
