So wait...am I understanding this wrong..? He's turning down playing one more season for 44 million after which he would be a free agent in order to get a multi-year contract immediately this off-season?

Isn't that him basically saying that he himself doesn't trust that he'll be healthy or coming off a good year at the end of next season?:heh:
Why should a franchise trust him being good for multiple years if he himself doesn't even believe in it apparently?:mindblown:

Scenario:

You can make $10 million dollars next year or you can make $40 million dollars total over the next 3 years. Which do you take?

Because it's routine business. Any player coming off a decent season declines their player option in search of a multi-year deal, Horford & Hayward didn't have years anywhere near as good as 2021 CP3 and they still got huge bags after opting out.

He's also helping the Suns with this opt-out, that $44m cap hit would've limited their flexibility. Now they have some wiggle room to maneuver while still being able to keep him.

Right, agents and FOs negotiate throughout the year. CP's agent knows its basically in stone. It is rare for any side to renig on a deal that they had an agreement for.

Go home to the Pelicans CP3, NO is a playoff team with possibly the most dominant scorer in the NBA right now. Finish your career where it started at, help another team become a playoff success and solidify your position as an all time great leader :yeshrug:.

This is easily the bestove for him, Zion would average 30ppg EASILY with CP3 making sure he gets the rock . There is not a better player in the league he could get next to next year than Zion.

He’s 37 and injury prone, how is he gonna get a deal averaging 45 million per?

what makes you think he has to get a deal averaging 45 mil?

If cp3 opts out and gets a 2 year 70 million deal he good . His agent wouldn’t of told him to opt out if he wasn’t confident he’d get more dough

suns or Knicks will give him that money

As Begley observes, the Knicks will have a pair of first-round picks in the 2021 draft and could create up to $60MM in cap room, so they’ll have the assets necessary to improve their roster. Play-making and shooting will be priorities, with point guard among the positions the team will be looking to upgrade, Begley adds.
