Obama had a real stinker of a first debate but there were zero defections or calls for him to step down. Know why? It's not because the Democrats recently lost their spine, it's because it is blatantly obvious to anyone who isn't a Biden loyalist that he has a significant and growing problem with his cognitive abilities, and therefore his candidacy. If anything, coming out publicly against your sitting President to try force him off the ticket against his will to try and save the party's dwindling chances in the election takes a lot of political backbone. The spineless thing to do would just keeping quiet and accepting the impending slaughter because you don't want to offend the sensibilities and ego of the President. This soft coup is arguably one of the boldest things I've ever seen the Democrats do.

it's interesting that we've been force fed so much bullshyt about how biden has spent his life being this "selfless public servant", and yet the conversation right now is not remotely about what's best for the party, let alone the country. it's about what's best for biden

that decision to run again has totally destroyed his legacy. the magnanimous decision to step down would have resulted in a massive amount of goodwill. and now even if he beats trump, which should be the bare minimum, he's exposed himself as a total dotard, who will only get worse as his term progresses. or what's left of it/them
