Democrats have totally ceded to right-wing framing on several issues. Most prominently immigration. They failed to counter right-wing propaganda on the issue and now are fighting R's on their terms. Instead of making a strong counterargument like they were doing during Trump's entire tenure (with most Americans agreeing with them) they now look like fake pussies on the issue. It's a Democrat classic, attempting to triangulate until they strangle themselves, moving the Overton window right in the process.
What is a liberal campaign? The one Joe Biden ran in 2020. His campaign was far more left, and actually worked despite not even really campaigning and a lack of GOTV efforts due to COVID.

i disagree on immigration. most polling, especially in the middle of this inflation, says that americans have little patience for importing immigrants right now. NYC's public humiliation, begging for money over a few busloads, was pretty much the nail in that coffinand biden's campaign wasn't a liberal campaign, it was a moderate campaign. that's why he won the primary, and that's what we wanted him to run on in the general. we didn't nominate warren or bernie for a reason
what was biden farther left than kamala on in 2020? when it comes to the important shyt, they seem pretty similar. workers/unions, min wage, abortion, etc. biden did not run on banning fracking in 2020, for the same reason kamala isn't this year. it's embarrassing once you hit the general election

This can be directly tied to Democrats ceding the issue. Public opinion was strongly on the Democrats side of the issue until into Biden's term and the "bipartisan bill" debacle. Democrats entertaining evil Republicans and acknowledging immigration as a safety issue rather than as an economic issue was disastrous.

Biden ran left of his general voting record and profile in the general. In the primary he ran as a centrist because that's what the skittish base wanted to avoid losing to Trump. And hey, it worked!
But in the general his allies were saying he would bring the next New Deal

My rationale for never picking up the phone for polls is that I don't want democrats to see a sample where they are comfortable. I want them in the perpetual state of having to work for the vote. Will I be a reliable straight dem ticket for the rest of my days? Yes. Not everyone is me so I want them to keep working as if they are an underdog.
If you know that you are up on the score, teams tend to play prevent defense. We should never get into prevent defense in politics. All gas, no brakes.
