You can start by putting winning teams on Christmas instead of the same teams, why was a bunch of .500 teams that may not even make playoffs playing on Christmas? Better yet, why do .500 teams have 30 something national games yet the most winning teams have barely any? And nba wonder why ratings struggle.

Because the schedule makers aren’t psychic and it’s impossible to predict who will be “winning” a quarter into the season? Because those .500 teams also to be amongst the most popular teams with the most popular players in the league? You wanted the league to flex out the Lakers or the Warriors on Christmas Day to showcase Chet Holmgren 25 games into his career ? Chet would’ve drew bigger ratings than Lebron or Steph?

NFL understands that marketing teams/franchises is a more sustainable model than focusing on individual superstars.

That sense of urgency and intensity just isn't there until the playoffs. Feels like you can ignore the game until January/February and it doesn't feel like you missed much.

If the NFL were capable of producing an icon like Jordan or Lebron, they would.

The reason they can’t do it is because football players are not as marketable as basketball players.

NFL has more stars than the nba currently. Especially young stars

Because the current NBA model of superstardom is the same as everything else - you basically have to create and sustain your own fanbase with your personality and activity off the court. Even if he's not the guy on his team, there's no legit reason why he's not getting that "next up" treatment. And even SGA isn't getting that promo from the league. Ant definitely isn't either and probably never will. They would've jumped on him after Hustle, a la Penny.

For Chet to gain traction, it's gonna take him to outplay Wemby every single time they play on TV, and a huge campaign from his organization.

The NBA is dumb though. They should be throwing all resources at their small market teams to expand their fanbase. Lakers, Knicks, Cs don't need it....not even GS needs it.

Small market
In the shadow of an MVP candidate teammate
In the shadow of fellow rookie Wemby (although Chet has overtaken Wemby in most ROY polls)

He's one of my favorite players to watch tho. Give him a memorable playoff performance and he'll get more love

Because NBA media is dogshyt. I swore off The Athletic's NBA podcast (it was trash anyway) because one of them was downplaying Holmgren early in the season. He was complaining because people were tagging him on Twitter because all he was talking about was Wemby and ignoring Chet. His rebuttal was implying Chet was a cute story but he has nothing on Wemby and they shouldn't be discussed in the same light.

The networks should be flexing a lot of OKC games onto the schedule. They are incredibly entertaining to watch and Chet is a massive part of that. SGA is a superstar and top billing for good reason but younger sidekicks usually get a big push as well.

It isn't just Chet either. Orlando's been a great surprise story so far but I don't see anything about Paolo. Sacramento picked up where they left off and Fox is averaging 30 a game but I don't see a lot about him. Ja Morant's return was talked about more than Fox all season.

Chet was the American Great White Hope before Flagg, his HS games were on ESPN and he outplayed Emoni Bates back when Bates still had his HS hype
I think the problem is Chet doesn’t look like he’s from USA. He was never giving “White hype” vibes, but more like Wemby/unicorn Greek freak vibes

It's coming eventually if he keeps playing like he has and continues to improve. A white guy from Minnesota potentially being a 25/12 player with 3 blocks a night? I don't care how ''ugly'' he is cuz Larry wasn't winning any beauty contests either. That's a guy the NBA will promote the hell out if his team and him continues to improve.

Media hasn't been hyping him but he'll get it if OKC continues to be good and he impresses in the playoff.

Modern trash sports discourse in a nutshell :heh:

Dude is playing his ass off, is something we rarely see, he’s efficient, the team is winning
, he’s poised to be a focal point of a potential dynasty …and it’s ‘we’ll see if he proves it in the playoffs :unimpressed:
