You talking about Cabin in the Woods?

Yeah. I don't call it a horror. More like a suspense thriller. And it did have stuff about rituals, sacrifice so on and so forth. The zombies were in the movie. But it wasn't the "villain"

Hence me saying it took elements from "horror" films with the "stereotypical" characters, plot[bunch of young adults want to go have fun, have sex, drink pArty, etc] And that it was "original" in introducing a more "if you will" supernatural element to a "camp" "horror" film. Plus that ending was different. And milk and cookies asked bout James(grey anatomy) who is in Cabin in The Woods.

That wasn't what she asked me. She asked is it a remake and is it good.

I also mentioned in the original response to her asking me, that it was sigh......
don't think it was lol. It was,I actually watched it when it was released, it has aged so far so good. It has the typical characters most horror films have,

The thread title says spoilers welcome. I was merely answering her question and describing the movie to her, yes I'm "aware" of what kind of movie it is. Perhaps maybe next time I'll just say,

Yes its good. Its a satire.

Idk. I haven't watched the shinning in a long time. Their beef was something else tho. I'm bias cause Kubrick is in my top 5 so yeah.

Well king didn't like his version. Felt like it wasn't true to his vision and I get that. I get both sides of the fence. As the person adapting your work I shouldn't be beholden to it but as the person being adapted, I'd maybe want you to stick more to what I wrote

I agree with that. More or less.

Crazy he (King) felt Nicholson wasn't the right guy for that. Well among other things he didn't like about Kubrick version. That one I didn't agree With. That line is classic, that scene is classic. He respect him, but deep down inside(hate is a strong word) King really dislike him lol

Well with jack he felt like it's obvious that crazy is coming and he wanted a guy who could play sane and the audience wouldn't see it coming

True, which is one of the main gripes King had about Kubricks adaptation. He has every right to feel like that. But I enjoyed Jack Nicholson in Kubrick version Of tge shinning. Sorry King. to be fair, a lot of authors feel disrespected when their stories are adapted into movies. I feel like had that movie didn't get the recognition it did, King wouldn't hate like he did and still does. But like you said, imagine a Spielberg wants to make a movie out of your book, its Herald as one if the greatest movies of all time....but it had major differences from your book. I'd be upset, and voice my opinion to. But I wouldn't bash the movie.

There's a different Shinning than the one with Nickolson?

Lol. Stephen King had a book called The Shining published 3 years before the film adaptation.

The novel was adapted into a feature film The Shining in 1980 by directorStanley Kubrick, with a screenplay co-written with Diane Johnson, which is regarded by some as one of the greatest films of all time.[1][2] King himself was disappointed with the film, stating it had abandoned several of his book's major themes. The Shining was later adapted into a television mini-series in 1997, closely monitored by King to ensure it followed the book.[3] King wrote the series himself and was reportedly unable to criticize the Kubrick version due to his contract.[4]

I haven't seen it mentioned, maybe because people liked the remake or just don't think that highly of the original, but the Salems Lot mini series with Rob Lowe was :trash:

That's one of my top 5 horror movies and the TNT remake was slow, boring, and not the least bit scary.
That Salem's Lot remake was a steaming pile of shyt.

I think a more interesting question would be which do you prefer?

Kubrick Shinning or King Shining
Kubrick's Shining was a masterpiece but I understood why King wanted to do the remake because what Kubricj made was not the book King wrote.
That being said the casting for the remake was so bad that it didn't matter whether the script or direction was any good. That project was doomed to be bad the minute they signed the actors they signed in the 3 lead roles.
