That Gorgeous joint was fire
Quik had been making TPAB-type albums for years and years that went unnoticed. Especially Rhythmalism (that obviously inspired King Kunte). Kendrick dropped TPAB during this trap era(that has lasted for damn near 15 years) and people act like it was the first west cost album of its kind with live instrumentation and dope rapping. Yes Quik has a discography filled with these type of hot ass albums that Kendrick fans and current journalists never knew existed. And then I become the villain/bad guy for pointing out the obvious. And this is in no way a knock on Kendrick at all, but the internet has giving a voice to a population that doesn't think anything exists prior to what they like.
DJ Quik and Snoop Dogg are headlining a show together in Lincoln, CA on December 27thQuik is actually in my top 5 and you're right, he's been making that sound at a high quality long before TPAB.
He's always been better than Dre imo, snoop needs to hit him up to put a real classic together because this shyt ain't it.
Dre is washed
You MUST be high
SNOOP AND GLORILLA
BATTLING FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR
SOC isn't better than nikkazforLife. It's a great album, but nikkazforlife was on another level musically. Lyrics were dope on both though. And I love the Roots albums. I have them all, but there are none that are better than 26 chambers. Things fall apart is up there though.that timing being off is actually a musical technique so I wouldn't call that a flaw tbh.
Yeah I don't know, for me The Roots have some of the best albums ever, (Undun IMO has more merits than 36 chambers), but their albums are just not as influential.
Influence is almost always taken into consideration when making an all-time list...thats why Straight Outta Compton is often ranked very high when shyt is just a compilation of rapping over some beats.
His last book. He wrote about first hearing 36 chambers and Cuban Linx thinking it was nothing special and didn't understand the hype. This is the same guy that was trying to convince us Kingdom Come was a classic until he finally admits(in the same book) that it wasn't very good at all. You've got to realize that Questlove is a musician. I've been around musicians a lot and they swear Midnight Mauraders is the greatest album ever due to the jazz samples being used. I used to tour with trained musicians 15 years ago and they were in their 20s(I was in my 30s). They listened to that album all the time on the road some 15 years after its release. And even they didn't think albums like Cuban Linx, Illmatic, Sun Rises in the east were comparable to Midnight Mauraders haha. It's a jazz thing...link?
dude been a snob but this seems off-brand even for him.
i could see him nit-picking/trying to show off over some bullshyt like a kick not being in tune or whatever, but to disrespect those albums overall
The production is the only thing on Elif4zaggin better than SOC. Dre went stupid, but lyrically and thematically it was a step down.SOC isn't better than nikkazforLife. It's a great album, but nikkazforlife was on another level musically. Lyrics were dope on both though. And I love the Roots albums. I have them all, but there are none that are better than 26 chambers. Things fall apart is up there though.
