Had he came out last year he would’ve gotten drafted in the first round. He was projected to be the number 1 pick this time last year, and now he’s “too risky” and “he has a bad attitude”? I’m not buying that completely man, there’s definitely more at play here. I understood to a degree why the Browns, Giants, Saints, Raiders and Rams didn’t draft him, but for the Steelers it was inexcusable.
There's a ton at play here.
As soon as he is drafted, all of this media attention will turn on a dime to the head coach of the team he's on and how hot that man's seat is, how long his leash is, and when's Prime coming to town. There are 2 types of teams in the NFL:
Teams that have their QB, and by extension, their (relatively) safe head coach: Buf, KC, Phi, Bal, Cin, Det, maybe a few others that you could argue one way or another (SF, LA, etc.)
And then there's everyone else, who is constantly churning through both HCs and QBs.
The teams with their QBs and safe head coaches wouldn't draft a QB in the early rounds.
Everyone else that would draft a QB in the first round, is guaranteed to have their entire coaching staff in the war room (because coordinators are hired by HCs) finding reasons not to draft this guy to protect their jobs.
He's the antithesis of what a rookie qb usually represents for a team: which is typically optimism and the hope that you found the one.
SS... man, if he's bad? Bring in Prime.
If the team is just good enough but can't make it over the hump? Bring in Prime.
I've been saying this for weeks now, but there's exactly ONE spot in the league that makes sense for him to land, which is of course with Jerry's Cowboys. Dak sucks, Schotty is an uninspired hire, and the circuis is in town 24/7 for that franchise. They pick 12th today.
