Pete had drug issues for a long time and did a lot of wild, dumb shyt. I'd imagine he's burned many bridges and doesn't remember how/why due to the drugs. At that point your only option is to apologize to people and he hasn't done that. Hard to take him seriously.

Serch....he's a salesman. I won't call him a culture vulture since he came up in the culture and was accepted, he did right by Nas etc etc. But he's been known to exaggerate and lie about some stuff.
What drug issues did Pete Nice have? I have never heard this.

Both albums some super mid but Serch wins simply because Nas is better than Cage
FOH. Dust To Dust was dope. Nas is the highlight of Serch's album. Pete was always better. DJ Rich was going crazy on there as well.
Search didnt put mf doom on, kmd and 3rd bass were cool with each other but 3rd bass just ended up blowing up more. i dont remember the timeline of the peach fuzz video, but in the ny underground pov they were just one big crew

also search did the video benetton with kurious and mf doom, i never heard there was a fallout but im guessing they patched it up for the video

They had mutual crew and friends. 3rd Bass predate KMD, but aside from Zev being on The Gas Face and both of them on Ace In The Hole, KMD did it all themselves. Dante Ross deserves the credit, if anyone.
For anyone's that been around long enough to remember, Serch has always been known to be a liar and mad shady on the business side of things.

O.C. and Nas had issues with him early on in their careers because he was taking money that should've gone to them. Russell Simmons had issues with Serch for trying to do sneaky sh*t with contracts, when Serch was working on starting his own management company. He's tried to use DOOM to get deals and shows, without DOOM's knowledge or permission. People have chased him out of the Def Jam offices for trying to snake them. All kinds of sh*t. Large Professor went up to a label looking for Serch too, and Serch ran out the back, lol.

I loved 3rd Bass. The Cactus Album was the second album I bought with my own money, as a kid. When they broke up, I supported both of their solos because I was always around the dudes who worked on the tracks for both. And even back then, the word has always been that Serch is a liar and can't be trusted. Now here we are, in damn near 2023, same story with dude. Sh*t is wild.

Math's podcast needs some work. It started off mad strong, and lately, it's kinda turned into a spot where people just go up there for drama or to lie. It used to be mad reputable. They need to fix that.
This. Serch has a long history of problems with people he worked with. Him being so good to Nas seems to be how he skates by, but if you listen to damn near everyone else, Nas was the only one he did totally right by.
I don't like either of those kkkrkers. NY let 2 white boys come in and talk shyt about a black man (Hammer) that was employing the hood and providing for his community. NY fukked up with that one.
Hammer was dissing Run-DMC and LL on Let's Get It Started, most of NYC was on his helmet, 3rd Bass just did it flagrantly on video. If he wasn't dissing, he would have been clowned for wackness, but they probably would have let him dance for chicken in peace until he fell off.
In Serch's interview with No Jumper, Adam22 briefly spoke about how he heard rumors around the industry Doom's drinking problems helped take him down, and Serch (who is still cool with some of Doom's people) agreed.. Doom had a nice crib in the suburbs of Atlanta with his family (his wife still lives there from what I hear), but after his son died and he got deported he apparently spent his last days in Grenada skipping his dialysis appointments and drinking.. he didn't die from suicide per se, but really of a "broken heart", which is what was originally reported.. I hope Doom is resting in peace man he had a rough azz life, same with Subroc and his son..
SAD. Rest In Paradise to all of them. :mjcry:
You cant bring your GF or wife on tour??? thats the beef?

I cant believe some of the shyt that makes relationships go sour...
1. If it's a rule, it's a rule for a reason. If you read or watch docs about tours, anyone with half a brain sets rules.
2. You must have never lived with someone and their girl overstays their welcome. Trust me, it can destroy a friendship or partnership with the quickness.

Run DMC and LL were going back and forth with Hammer for years. I don't have a problem with that, but i do have a problem with 2 kkkrkers going at a black man that's uplifting his community and black people standing by them. Regardless of how "wack" he may have been to the hip hop community, you don't send out a kkkraker to diss a black man publicly that doing good for other black people. Maybe it's something your parents/grandparents havent taught you. Maybe it's something you haven't taught your own kids, but the fact you're defending it is a representation of why we as black people are fukked up as a whole.

If you weren't from New York, you were looked down on back then.

That's why so many West and South artists were cool with each other as well.

I REALLY want to hear about why Large Pro got so mad he was looking for Serch with a damn Machete. Ain’t NOTHING you gonna do with a Machete besides murder a muthafukka lol. What made him THAT mad?

Large Pro has spoken about the Illmatic thing before. From his words, Nas wanted him to exec produce but he was going through label issues and Main Source was about to break up so he had to deal with his own shyt and he told Nas pretty much he already had the wherewithal to do it himself. I think thats where Serch stepped in as far as making sure the paper work and samples were cleared. Of course Faith Newman did her part as well.

It seems like Nas, Faith, and Serch were the ones who put Illmatic together from the blueprint that Large Pro had already set out. Large had already introduced Nas to Qtip and Pete Rock, he also had already produced It Ain’t Hard To Tell (back when it was Nas Will Prevail) so the ball was already rolling

Large Professor didn't run up on Serch, Main Source (without Large Pro) did after Wild Pitch fukked up the release of their 2nd album..

Honestly Nas had all the stars aligning for him at the right time.. Large Pro put Nas on BBQ in 91 which got Nas bubbling, Serch noticed this, saw Nas potential and built on this by having Nas and Large Pro make Halftime to put on some movie soundtrack in 92, and that blew up the hype for Nas even more, leading to the Columbia deal, and ALL of QB to push for the dude after KRS One embarrassed them 5 years earlier..

Nas had too many people looking out for him on a street and industry level to get jerked.. he had his QB people looking out for him, but he also had cats who were already established in the industry and knew their shyt behind him as well like Q-Tip, Premo, and Pete Rock..

I can't say I agree.

When Hammer first came out I was at Central on 38th and Linwood in KCMO, which was literally 99% black.

People (fans and rappers alike) just thought Hammer was a corn ball. That's all it was.

People fukked with his music the same way they fukked with Kid N Play. Nobody was gonna side with Kid N Play over a "real" rapper though.

In recent years people have been far more forgiving of Hammer than they were initially. Which is fine. But some of it borders on history revision.

Nah, MANY southern and west coast artists said this on wax. Just didn't pop out of nowhere.

I'm talking about Hammer specifically.

I don't think what you're saying applies to him, as people had issues with him totally independent of any regional bias.

I gave Dust To Dust a listen earlier after probably a decade. Its not bad at all, sounds more complete than the Serch album, although Serch is a much more likeable and better rapper generally.

Looking at the credits, Beatnuts did some beats, and KMD produced a skit. Cage's verse is wild. I wonder if Eminem was a fan of that verse.

Hammer was dissed back then, actually hated on because he became too popular.

Once he became too popular they said he sold out and was too commercial.

When he first came out, he wasn't dissed or hated on. It's when he became too big when the criticism started.

He was in the "dance/rap" lane. He made good music but people thought he was corny. Right out the gate. At least where I was.

A little bit after that, when he was doing everything under the sun to cross over, is when he started getting outright shytted on.

I never personally seen anyone like him enough for the criticism back then to be labeled as "hating".

Hammer was positive, didn't disrespect anyone and started out selling tapes out of his trunk. He hustled and worked hard to get where he was.

Heavy D, Kid N Play, Big Daddy Kane etc and many more rappers all danced so his "Dance Rap" wasn't the reason for the criticism.

Even Search danced!

He got to big and people started hating. The same thing happened with Biggie in his own city. He got too popular and people started hating.

Hammer had his own style and where I was nobody thought he was corny.

Heavy D, Kid N Play, Big Daddy Kane etc
Which one of these is not like the other? :jbhmm:

C'mon man, let's not be silly here. Nobody was arguing who had better bars, Heavy D or D.O.C.

There was a clear distinction between "dance/rap" and rap, even with dancing.
