For anyone's that been around long enough to remember, Serch has always been known to be a liar and mad shady on the business side of things.

O.C. and Nas had issues with him early on in their careers because he was taking money that should've gone to them. Russell Simmons had issues with Serch for trying to do sneaky sh*t with contracts, when Serch was working on starting his own management company. He's tried to use DOOM to get deals and shows, without DOOM's knowledge or permission. People have chased him out of the Def Jam offices for trying to snake them. All kinds of sh*t. Large Professor went up to a label looking for Serch too, and Serch ran out the back, lol.

I loved 3rd Bass. The Cactus Album was the second album I bought with my own money, as a kid. When they broke up, I supported both of their solos because I was always around the dudes who worked on the tracks for both. And even back then, the word has always been that Serch is a liar and can't be trusted. Now here we are, in damn near 2023, same story with dude. Sh*t is wild.

Math's podcast needs some work. It started off mad strong, and lately, it's kinda turned into a spot where people just go up there for drama or to lie. It used to be mad reputable. They need to fix that.

Just in the clips I've seen you can tell Mecca wanted to call bs on a few things but kinda just let it slide or vaguely pushed back. I agree that the show took a major step down in quality after the recently break up. Damn shame because the last classic moment was that Young Guru ep where he gave them so much praise. Only for shyt to fall apart weeks later smh.

Like I said he's a salesman. In an era where so many artists were deliberately getting fukked over by their labels (especially by Russell and Lyor), I'm not willing to call him the bad guy. He tried to get his own hustle going, sometimes he fukked up sometimes he did right by people. Overall him and Nas are still good. Dunno about OC.

Never heard the story about Serch and Large Pro lol.

Admittedly I let them live in my consciousness because they gave hammer the gas face. He came out dissing Run Dmc out the gate, an most of us didn't like that shyt. We didn't learn of his nepotism until much later.

Where did you hear that alcohol was what killed Doom? Its could be part of it because he was a big drinker but I thought they never confirmed the cause publicly? I read it was suicide, after his son died he spiralled.

Its tragic. Theres only been a few celebrities that died where it hit me like I lost a friend. He was one of them.
In Serch's interview with No Jumper, Adam22 briefly spoke about how he heard rumors around the industry Doom's drinking problems helped take him down, and Serch (who is still cool with some of Doom's people) agreed.. Doom had a nice crib in the suburbs of Atlanta with his family (his wife still lives there from what I hear), but after his son died and he got deported he apparently spent his last days in Grenada skipping his dialysis appointments and drinking.. he didn't die from suicide per se, but really of a "broken heart", which is what was originally reported.. I hope Doom is resting in peace man he had a rough azz life, same with Subroc and his son..

That was a high quality pod forever. But after the recent exits, it dipped crazy. They need to get the original heads back on there.

I wouldn't say Serch is the only bad guy. But I think he learned a lot of shady tactics from the heads that were over him when he was in the group. And then he took those same tricks and started using them against dudes, when he was trying to manage them. Way too many legends tell the exact same stories about him. Large Professor chased him out of Wild Pitch, with a machete, lol. Paul is mad chill. So if he's looking for you, you must've done something crazy. Nas said in Mass Appeal that he wanted Extra P to executive produce Illmatic, but somehow Serch ended up being the executive producer. Not sure what happened, but Serch snatched up Nas and Paul got left out in the cold on that deal with Columbia.

yeah nah

that was up to Doom family. He jumped out and did it for the clout before anyone
definitely milked it. DIdn't feel right to hear it broken down so corporate. Podcast style like that disguised as a "tribute" and had people on there just to milk it. A few decent episodes but yeah ultimately the family should have done so before the exploitation but you know know they move......

It's crazy to see how convincing liars can be.

Search was up there sounding real official like everything he said was facts. Sounding like everyone around him did wrong and he did nothing.

I'm not calling him a liar, but the people involved and some in this thread are and they have proof.

I REALLY want to hear about why Large Pro got so mad he was looking for Serch with a damn Machete. Ain’t NOTHING you gonna do with a Machete besides murder a muthafukka lol. What made him THAT mad?

Large Pro has spoken about the Illmatic thing before. From his words, Nas wanted him to exec produce but he was going through label issues and Main Source was about to break up so he had to deal with his own shyt and he told Nas pretty much he already had the wherewithal to do it himself. I think thats where Serch stepped in as far as making sure the paper work and samples were cleared. Of course Faith Newman did her part as well.

It seems like Nas, Faith, and Serch were the ones who put Illmatic together from the blueprint that Large Pro had already set out. Large had already introduced Nas to Qtip and Pete Rock, he also had already produced It Ain’t Hard To Tell (back when it was Nas Will Prevail) so the ball was already rolling

That's interesting. I wonder how different it would be if Large Pro oversaw the project. Then again, based on how Serch was talking, it didn't sound like he had much input artistically.
