You know your stuff. Would you say Pete's debut was better than Search's (minus him putting the GOAT on his record) ? I always felt Nice's album was more solid than Return of the Product

Pete's solo flow was weak. He sounded washed compared to how he sounded on 3rd Bass. Pete might have had better production, i don't remember.

Pete had drug issues for a long time and did a lot of wild, dumb shyt. I'd imagine he's burned many bridges and doesn't remember how/why due to the drugs. At that point your only option is to apologize to people and he hasn't done that. Hard to take him seriously.

Serch....he's a salesman. I won't call him a culture vulture since he came up in the culture and was accepted, he did right by Nas etc etc. But he's been known to exaggerate and lie about some stuff.
Serch had drug issues too tho

dude Serch USED Doom's death to get a podcast run

he was working with Kane doing this major audio production then jumped all over the DOOM story that part is 100% true. Search also has a history full of lies.

That’s wack but to be fair, Serch is the one who gave doom and subroc their first big breaks and put them on their first tour, introducing them to legends like pac and dr dre. His interview gave great insight into doom’s life during the kmd days, and he’s def one of the people most qualified to speak on doom’s legacy..

Both of them probably embellish a bit. There’s no WAY that Cactus is streaming 250 Mil per year, even worldwide.

Serch has told the same story, almost down to the last word, on signing and helping a young Nas out, for the past 10-15 years so i’m inclined to believe that since Nas has never refuted it and always shouts him out when he raps/speaks on his early career.

The Rakim ghostwriting thing SEEMED like a big misunderstanding that got out of hand, but as we’ve seen from people running with the bullshyt Quentin Miller/Nas story, ANY type of suggestion that somebody wrote for a GOAT contender isn’t going to run unchecked, so you better either have PROOF or you should STFU. Even the SUGGESTION that Serch wrote for Rakim was blasphemous and had Rakim really wanted to end Serch’s entire career credibility he could have.

MC Serch used his fame to put a spotlight on black culture and black history, and introduced the world to MF Doom and Nas, he IS a hip hop legend. Can’t blame Pete for feeling some type of way on how things turned out for him, but he sounds super salty.

Not true fam, Serch didn’t start speaking on Doom’s death until after Doom’s family broke their silence last year on KMD day in Doom’s hood:

Serch grew up in the hood in nyc during the crack era and was hanging around Brand Nubian and other 5%ers in the late 80s/early 90s, I think he knows which lines not to cross..

I didn't know the extent of the DOOM thing. I remember Serch doing another big interview where he talked about his podcast plans, making a more immersive one (NY street sounds, weather sounds, etc) with interviews and narration. But I didn't know that he dipped on Kane to do a DOOM one, presumably after his death. I remember him saying he wanted to do a DOOM one, when he was on Questlove's podcast.

Making a podcast about someone's life is fine. But given that Serch and DOOM weren't on speaking terms after the falling out, and IIRC they never spoke after Zen Love X became "DOOM" n the late 90s...I don't feel comfortable with this news.

Serch's story:

“So somebody just showed me the Lord Sear/Rakim interview,” Serch begins. “Let’s get it real straight, real fast. Lyor Cohen, my manager at the time, asked me to write a rhyme for Eric B. and Rakim for the Follow The Leader album. I wrote ‘Steppin’ To The A.M.’ Rakim had no idea I was writing a rhyme. Eric B. had no idea I was writing a rhyme. The only person that knew was Lyor Cohen.

“As soon as Eric heard the first … he didn’t even hear the title and he hung up on me and then called Lyor and screamed on him for four hours. Lord Sear, for you to tell fukkin’ Rakim that I wrote a rhyme for him — yo, fukk you Sear. Trying to get fukkin’, some little fukkin’ shine for your bullshyt ass show. I’m so fukkin’ mad at you right now. You’re my fukkin’ man. You could’ve called me and asked me what the fukkin’ deal was … Rakim didn’t know. Nobody knew. Yo, fukk you, man. That’s bullshyt.”

So the only people who could verify this would be Lyor or Eric B. Never heard either speak on it, but regardless he didn't write any of Rakim's rhymes. He (allegedly) wrote a track with Rakim in mind, to give to him for Lyor. Probably bullshyt, probably misremembering something. Maybe Lyor told him to write some serious shyt like Rakim.

I know all of this

All i’m saying is that when it comes to anybody saying they wrote for anyone, ESPECIALLY a legend, they gotta have the story super straight, alongside PROOF, or they’re better off just not speaking on it. The Serch thing seems like a misunderstanding, but what did Serch even serve to gain telling that story? Besides potentially pissing off The God MC (which it did)
