KD is right about fans complaining about everything. Look, I'm not saying things are perfect, but it's not all bad either, and I feel it's been exaggerated a bit. Then again, I consider myself a die-hard basketball person; it's my defacto #1 sport, so it's never boring to me.
I feel like there's been a lot of revisionism regarding the all-star game. The game has always been an exhibition match for fans to see the best in the world play for fun, y'know, showcase their skills, and do things they wouldn't do in the game: flashy dunks, flashy layups, distances 3s, etc. It's not supposed to be taken seriously or played with high intensity, it's an exhibition match meant to be laid-back and relaxed. Kinda like the Pro Bowl; that's pretty much the NFL's version of an all-star game that is never played tight.
I think people assume since the best of the best in the league are all on the court together as teammates that, the game is supposed to be naturally a tight and intensified playoff-like environment or a high-stakes regular season matchup.
People wanna keep bringing up Kobe-era ASG but fail to realize that was never the norm, just the exception, I don't see any difference between the level of competition in all-star games of recent and the late 2010s. I feel the players are trying, but the fans' expectations and perceptions of what is considered competitive have become extreme to the point where, as I stated before, are these so-called fans even basketball fans to begin with?
There's only so much that can be done to make it more competitive, so if a person constantly finds themselves bored or unentertained, they're probably not basketball fans at heart but casuals who just enjoy the big stakes (playoffs, all-star weekend, etc) and stan individual players.
