Chauncey Billups was an all star, a Champion, and a finals mvp. Juwon Howard was an All Star, and a champion after he left Denver. Kenyon Martin was an All Star, made a finals appearance, was a great versatile defender and a strong power forward who could jump out the gym. Dahntay Jones, NBA champion, great perimeter defender who could take the pressure off of having AI gaurd someone like Kobe. Marcus Camby, DPOY, excellent rim protector. JR Smith, 2x champion, 6 man of the year, solid defender, dynamic scorer fast and atheletic. Nene, tenacious defender, hustler, rebounder, most improved player of the year. You get the point. Now this wasnt no superteam...that wasnt a thing yet, and some of these guys were role players on the Nuggets... but we not gonna pretend that these weren't absolutely solid players to put around around 2 guys who are really them. Problem is AI and Melo weren't really them. You said they didnt complement each other...but apparently they didnt complement with any others. Thats THEIR fault they couldnt figure it out. They had more than enough talent around them to make some noise.

Melo didn't need another high usage scorer. He needed a system that fit him and a coach that could instill discipline. Denver didn't do that. They just threw a bunch of nikkas together and said go. That's why I said he would've been a good fit on Detroit. If you had Big Ben, Sheed, Rip, Billups and Tayshaun off the bench clamping you down holding you to 90 points a game while Melo going off, the whole landscape of the 2000s East changes dramatically. And unless Melo wanted them hands, Big Ben would have made him play defense and become a whole different player.

@Flex Grossman I think they still would've got Sheed in this scenario breh. They got Sheed for peanuts basically. Drafting a SF in Melo instead of a C in Darko wouldn't have made Dumars not want to go after Sheed who I remember reading that he wanted for a long time. It's crazy thinking about how good they would've possibly been with Melo. Almost as dumb as GS not drafting the other Melo :francis:

This was silly of Melo. He started by saying they intentionally gave the #15 to jokic as if he didn’t have an option to pick his own number but then says that he doesn’t know if jokic picked the number or not.

Then why did you just say jokic was given the number by the organization out of spite? :dahell:

Maybe. But darko wasnt good enough to get minutes that year, and they were in win-now mode. That was what forced the trade. Melo was a 20/game guy right off the bat and tayshaun was established. Even with the small price tag on sheed, do they pull the trigger and create the logjam? Interesting to think about.

He’s hinted being upset about them moving A.I plenty of times in the past, it’s no secret. It’s no secret he didn’t fukk with George Karl. His wife wanting to raise Kiyan in NY. It was a lot of variables that factored into Melo leaving Denver.

The man says it clear as day he didn’t want to go but there was a lot of factors involved in him demanding a trade

He's been trying to change the story in every interview hes done in the last couple years. He was a year removed from the WCF after flaming out in the first round every year with AI.

He said in the woj interview that they told him that they were gonna rebuild? What sense does that make with a superstar in his prime? Reload maybe, but if they were gonna rebuild, trading melo wouldve been the first move the org made.

It was well reported at the time that melo and Lala wanted to be in NY. He can try and change that story all he wants, but hes just trying to soften it. He told the city that might be his only chance at getting a number retired that they werent good enough and he wanted a big market. Thats why the fans still dont fukk with him. If he wanted a trade for basketball reasons, thats respectable. Breh wanted a trade because he wanted to be in NY instead if denver. Its fair for denver to stop fukkin with him after that.

100%. He left the team high & dry when he forced his way out, instead of waiting until free agency that year. He deserves NOTHING. He’s delusional as fukk, talking about his “accomplishments” (LOL). Nikka, get the fukk outta here. So a couple of playoff appearances and 1 WCF is supposed to be a legendary career with one team now?? Jokic has accomplished more than Melo, even before the NBA Finals win last year. Melo is just a good scorer at the end of the day, who’ll be remembered as a “good” player, and maybe get a pity HOF. His career is was not memorable, nor noteworthy.
you guys are weird
the trade was way more benefical to denver. If he woulda left in free agency they would got nothing lol.

and yes, melo brought back denver from the dead. They went from like 17 wins to 40 plus wins in one season ( which was a record at the time) and made a regular playoff team in da West which was hard as fukk back then

He also brought em to their first conference finals ever and holds a lot of their records. Players have done less for teams and got their shyt retired...denver was dead in da water.
