Sounds like he was talking about black people as a race during the time he was alive.

A little pessimistic, but from what Ive read he honestly thought he was pulling fast one trying to galvanize folks to head back to Africa he believed ADOS was going to be victim to a genocide campaign
EX: He criticized Margaret Sanger's Planned Parenthood outreach as a form of genocide.

Dubois was on an advisory council supporting her.

Leaders are human and flawed.

Black and white ethnonationalists have the same goals. It doesn't really surprise me that he would talk to Klansmen. The NOI palled around with neo Nazis, after all. I am surprised at the anti black American rhetoric, though.
It wasn’t anti-black American rhetoric though he was speaking for the black race he didn’t make those distinctions. The people in Jamaica also did not fukk with his message because he would say shyt like this. And tbh if you read stuff back then from other black leaders they would say shyt just like this about a particular segment of the black community hell people today do so it’s really fake outrage.

Black American conservatives (Black Repubs and some black American Dem’s that are conservative towards their own), and many of those who migrated here more than likely agree with him both past and present.

This was all addressed in the past Garvey thread by @IllmaticDelta. Dude was talking with the KKK :hhh:

Marcus Garvey was a black racial separatist, he wanted black people to move back to Africa because they were "visitors" to America and forcibly brought here by white folk. His way of thinking is par on course for the times, so I see his point, but idk why people think he was a MLK type of brother, he did not want to make amends or live with white folk. Garvey wanted black people to be financial independent of white folk and move back to Africa, he believed similar to the white man above that white and black people should be separated, he just wasn't a violent bigot like the KKK was. His ideas and beliefs can be summarized off these two posts on wikipedia imo.

Some in the African diasporic community regarded him as a pretentious demagogue and were highly critical of his collaboration with white supremacists, his violent rhetoric, and his prejudice against mixed-race people and Jews. He nevertheless received praise for encouraging a sense of pride and self-worth among Africans and the African diaspora amid widespread poverty, discrimination, and colonialism.

Black separatism in its purest form, as a subcategory of black nationalism, asserts that blacks and whites ideally should form two independent nations.[4] Additionally, black separatists often seek to return to their original cultural homeland: Africa. Black separatists generally think that black people are hindered in a white-dominated society.

There are similarities between black nationalism and black separatism. They both advocate rights for black people, but there are a few differences between them. All black separatists are black nationalists, but not all black nationalists are black separatists. Black separatists believe that black people should be physically separated from other races, primarily whites; black separatists would want a separate nation for black people. Examples of black separatist organizations include the Nation of Islam and the New Black Panther Party.[5]

This is slightly different from black nationalists because black nationalists don't always believe in a physical separation of black people. In some form, black nationalists do believe in separation, but not physical separation. Black nationalists focus more on black pride, justice, and identity. Their belief is that black people should be proud of their own skin, heritage, and beauty. They also believe that there should be justice for black people especially in the United States.

He was just on the extreme levels black nationalism imo.

Meanwhile Garvey was the same clown that accused DuBois of being against Garvey, because Garvey was a dark skinned Caribbean. All that DuBois was actually saying was that a call for complete separation was a surrender to White supremacy.

It was amazing that Dubois vision of African Americans survived the shortsightedness of Booker T. Washington and Marcus Garvey. At the end of the day Dubois showed himself to be the true Pan Africanist.
