Lyndon B. Johnson was an unabashed racist as well as Abraham Lincoln and most peckwoods to some degree

Circumstances can force people's hands to do things they wouldn't normally do. In the case of anything black people receive in this country, it's only gained if white people have something in it for them

What that could be in the case of someone like mumia or Jamil al amin? I can't say for sure

But we can't act like a deal with the devil is unprecedented

Or are Republicans the only ones that can make their opponents kiss the ring? :unimpressed:
You're overlooking how fundamentally different today's political climate is compared to the examples you're citing. You cite figures like LBJ and Lincoln and how they made decisions that went against their personal biases, but this all happened under unique circumstances. Where is the massive social movements pushing for their release at both the state and federal level? In Lincoln's case, it took outright war to force their hands. Even then, their decisions were often calculated to preserve power or political stability. I'm sad to say none of that applies here.

As far as people like Brian Kemp, he's a governor who has shown zero inclination to making even the slightest concession in the support for racial justice. The idea that a pressure campaign or any political leverage could push someone like him to pardon Jamil Al-Amin is completely unrealistic. Kemp's entire brand is built on appealing to a racist conservative base that thrives on opposing racial justice in ALL forms.

The polarization today makes "deals with the devil" far less likely, especially on issues like this. Although, I would like to hear some suggestion on how this could be achieved.

I've honestly never cared about posthumous pardons.
Doesn't help anyone except for the agency who wrongfully convicted them to feel better about themselves.
and i don't really feel like we should be celebrating these institutions taking action to better their own image, when they couldn't be bothered to do so when the person was alive.

Myself and my own.
Reminds me of a time when someone said he was sorry for insulting his uncle who had died recently and his son said "cool, I'll be sure to tell him" sarcastically. :heh:

:mjlol: In that case. Why send all that money (and weapons) to Israel then? What about Ukraine? What’s our obligation there?

:mjlol: Why not use that money to fund our school districts and to build new schools and better roads, etc?

:mjlol: Are the Israelis and Ukrainians more important than us Americans? Why the unobligation there?

My only complaint is exactly that, sending too much money overseas for conflicts that are none of our business.
But in somes cases i understand its matter of national security. letting russia conquer and take footholds in other countries in order position themselves to better challenge our nation's sovereignty is not to be desired. so i understand the support of the Ukraine even if i don't give af about any Ukrainians.
The question is if you are using this argument about sending money to Israel. how come you don't have a problem with us sending money to Palestine?
We shouldn't be sending them any money either, but i don't hear complaining about those payments. Sent palestine more the $1 billion since 2023.
You use the argument when it suits you rather than maintaining a consistent principle one way or another.
