They thought they could just spend them into submission, no creativity at all. Honestly they probably could have succeeded in that if they did it right.

Microsoft's current CEO never cared about any of that. He was buying assets to build value. I think everybody can see he and Hood forced Spencer and Booty to embrace their strategy that had a bigger picture. They thought they could just spend them into submission, no creativity at all. Ballmer didn't.Real rap though Microsoft never gave a fukk about Xbox after 360. They was treating that shyt like Microsoft Zune or some other failed venture
Pretty much, and thats the thing that makes me goXbox existed to be leveraged into living room domination rather than to beat PlayStation. As soon as they found a level of success the focus immediately shifted away from games as a focus.
When Nadella came into power it was also clear that their goal was to break away from being console dependent. They were always thinking bigger than just overtake PlayStation.
Xbox basically wanted to be everywhere. They wanted to be Netflix. A brand that isn't associated with a specific piece of hardware and exist everywhere. Them putting everything on PlayStation might be shocking to traditionalist but looking back the signs were always there. When Keystone was cancelled that was telling.
MS was never trying to make money off selling hardware aka consoles.... that was never the goal.
That tracks. They admitted they never made money off hardware in the merger documents. It was never a priority. It was either about selling software, or subscription services, or trying to control the living room.

We have a better product than Sony has, not just on hardware but equally important on the software platform and services on top of the hardware,” Spencer wrote. “We have the ingredients of a winning plan. I felt the feedback from the BoD discussion on being too confident and maybe this will just reinforce that perception, I get the need to be humbly confident but today was a good day for us.
The business model was sell hardware at a loss and make money on software and content sales. If profitable hardware was a focus why then did they not assemble hardware they could sell for a profit?![]()
What Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Really Thought of the PS5 Reveal - IGN
Leaked emails have revealed Xbox boss Phil Spencer’s thoughts about PlayStation 5 back in early 2020.www.ign.com
delusional…no company is going to invest that much R&D into producing two different console SKU’s over their competition in order to not try and outsell them
because they were competing with Playstation...The business model was sell hardware at a loss and make money on software and content sales. If profitable hardware was a focus why then did they not assemble hardware they could sell for a profit?
Other companies in the space decided to do that and made hardware they never lost any money on.
If you're going to call someone delusional at least speak to their point. Making a profit on selling hardware was never a priority for Microsoft. That has jack shyt to do with out selling the competition. You could do that and still sell hardware at a loss.
