there wont be consoles anymore since you can use something the cost of a firestick for 30$ or a smart tv in general to just stream 4k games from the company

collecting consoles is just a novelty at this point and wont be needed ... emulation, steam deck, dolphin, and apps showed that you can play the same games in better quality for 80% cheaper

You think MS, a billion dollar PC software company got in the gaming space with the intent to make money selling hardware, which they already had the knowledge and metrics of being a industry were you sell hardware at a loss and make that loss up on the back end?

If so :mjlol:

And :mjlol: to everyone that dapped the post.

The only reason the Xbox is a thing is because MS didn't want Sony to have complete control of the living room and entertainment areas, that could bleed into the PC space.

The problem is the Xbox 360 generation gave them a bit of false hope (kinda like COVID did the with the whole industry) and they thought that they could out do PlayStation at gaming, if they would have stuck to their guns with the original XB1 vision they would be so far ahead of the competition right now instead they released a gimped version of the XB1 and tried to beat Sony at the console race while getting hate for any and everything which has set them back a ton, now they gotta pivot in certain areas to get to the same point they had a clear shot to get to before hand.

Technology isn't there yet to truly take over. Maybe once I can play a game like Starfield on shytty hotel wifi or mobile connection in 4k.

Claiming Microsoft had some kind of master plan is laughable.

Its true that MS didn't intend to make money on hardware, it's a loss leader.

its just that their dumbasses paired a lossleader with another loss leader in gameass because they couldn't compete with Sony in straight out fight,

I understand the sentiment but in the classical sense, Sony won. Sony took Nintendo and Sega on their home turf (consoles) over the years and decades, the following happened.

Sega: Stopped making consoles.
Nintendo: Stopped chasing bleeding edge technology.
Microsoft: Adopted a play games everywhere strategy.

Sony's current strategy is for the PS5 is clearly in the same vein or mold as the original Playstation while others had to backtrack or switch lanes to find viability and success in the marketplace. They won what we are knew to be the console wars growing up.

In the end Microsoft's abandonment of being hardware exclusive will be the better strategy over what Sony is doing. We've reached a point where reaching a wider audience is more important than not paying that 30% fee to the platform holder.

It won't gain traction here because we have console warriors but Microsoft has gone from competing with Sony to competing with Tencent. With hardware no longer restraining them they can do much better on their newer games getting traction.

The point is that they “won” but it’s an empty victory as they have to put their games on switch, PC, Cloud, Mobile just like everyone else does at this point.

And into the future of more platform agnostic gaming they are behind the curve.

Software licensing and services will keep them going for now, but they are in somewhat of a crisis on how to handle their own first party software into the future.

This is not true at all.

There were no playstation games on other platforms in the past.

Sony has gone multiplatform by their own words. Not sure why we pretend that’s not happening in these conversations.

I do feel like Microsoft's strategy will be more lucrative for them long term. My argument is purely 'installed console base.' When it came to consoles, that was the original barometer.
