But even then, nintendo wins that fight.I do feel like Microsoft's strategy will be more lucrative for them long term. My argument is purely 'installed console base.' When it came to consoles, that was the original barometer.
Yes switch is very successful.Switch just set a US sales record but people are talking about consoles are over. Miss me with the hybrid talk it's still a console. Hardware will sell for people who want to play in their living room, and there's still enough 1st party between Nintendo and Sony to justify consoles existing going forward.
And again as Microsoft exits the hardware space there will be a 3rd party hole that PS6 can occupy for non-PC gamers.

No, it's a hybrid, primarily portable.
A non portable Nintendo console has only broken 100 million in sales ONCE. And that was the Wii fad.
All of their other consoles (NES, SNES, 64, Gamecube, Wii U) have never done over 62 million in sales and that was the OG NES/Famicon.
Wii U - 14 million
Gamecube - 22 million
N64 - 33 million
SNES - 49 million
They are the portable kings. A pure console non handheld from them does not move those units. And they never have.
Their console numbers have decreased every single gen outside of the Wii which was a CLEAR outlier.
It's still an innovation that helped them recover from the Wii U gen and moved them major units even with them merging their handheld sales. We'll see what happens with the Switch 2.
My point is the industry wont completely move away from consoles because the use case is still strong. There's a learning curve with PC that scares off the average consumer.
Off the top of my head.Same for sony, but yall scared to admit the truth![]()
Looks like a clear trend of everybody selling less consoles overtime.Off the top of my head.
PS1 sold 100m
PS2 sold 160m
PS3 sold 87m
PS4 sold 118m
PS5 sold 60-75m (estimated) so far.
Let's look at Xbox.
Xbox sold 20m
Xbox 360 sold 84m
Xbox One sold 58m
Xbox Series sold 25 -30m (estimated)
Yeah, you right.
Xbox has been trending down. I posit that there are roughly 160-180m console users. And they move between consoles.Looks like a clear trend of everybody selling less consoles overtime.
But again, some of you don’t want to admit it![]()
