Xbox has been trending down. I posit that there are roughly 160-180m console users. And they move between consoles.

I think I see the trend from the PS2 to PS3 where users migrated to Xbox. With the X One launch, console users went back to Sony.
Sony has lost ~60 million users from their peak. There’s lots of ups and downs in between but i don’t think it’s as simple as users just jumping back and forth between the two.

The PS2 gen sold 180 mill between xbox and playstation.

This gen will be lucky to make it to 150

In this era PS5 is outselling the Xbox even more than last gen.
Not really. At this point it’s about the same ratio. as last gen.
Considering that for the first 2 years you could easily get a Series S and couldn't get a PS5, I expect the PS5 into sell 120m
This isn’t true.

Early on Series S and X had low stock problems as well.

PS5 has been well stocked for years now and it’s still not catching up to PS4(Which had stock issues of its own)

There’s no reason to believe it’s gonna surpass PS4 as console sales usually start to drop off towards the end of the gen.

Well we will see who is right at the end of the generation.

Gentleman, the problem with all of this is people lack wisdom and rationality.

Nintendo sells the most consoles each gen.
Sony outsells Microsoft each gen except the 360 generation but they still lied about it :mjlol:

Microsoft has always looked to the future with this and has been ready to move Xbox into a Cloud space which means also a PC space
With that being sohh, Sony gamers refuse to acknowledge how consoles are turning into subscription services. Xbox has been promoting Xbox Anywhere since last gen. To prepare for the eventuality

So when we talk about who won a console war? The war itself goes beyond consoles now. Nintendo can keep em' coming but Sony isn't in that same position. Sony fanboys openly talk bad about the COD acquisition not understanding that its to drive gamers to their subscription service. They don't understand that they are pumping Gamepass with hit after hit after hit to the point its flat out stupid to not use it over what sony offers.

What is Sony doing to drive you to their service, I want to play the Plucky Squire too but that's about it for new stuff. Oh yeah, I forgot about some other mid games too right? And then the backlog. Man, you want to play those again :whew: and that is better than Gamepass. Meanwhile, Sony stans made GROUNDED the hiighest selling game of the month, then Sea of Theives did the same

Just off shyt like that, its clear who is winning right now in terms of "knocking it out the park" and that's Xbox with Gamepass.
There isn't a better deal in gaming. So the only thing that is left to do is to get everyone else to try it. Because it can't be denied. Its that simple.
I don't care who sells the most, I care who has the best overall shyt to play. There's only one answer to that. Gamers won :win:

For now :jbhmm:

2 years cut it out. this shyt been out 5 years and its already 70 mil sold with shortages. PlayStation 4 List of best-selling game consoles - Wikipedia ps4 basically was around the same at this time with no shortages. I say all of this to say :camby:

PS4 was at 87 million by that time

The ps5 is 1.5 million units behind the ps4 :comeon:

As of February 2025, the PS5 was 1.5 million units behind the PS4 in sales during the same period of their respective lifecycles, with the PS4 having sold 76.5 million units at that point compared to the PS5's 75 million.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • PS4 Sales: The PS4 had sold 76.5 million units at a similar point in its lifecycle.

As i always say, sony stan’s are adverse to reality :francis:
In Sony's earnings report for Q2 of fiscal year 2018 (which ended on Sept. 30), the company reported 3.9 million PS4 units sold, which, tacked onto the 82.2 million total units reported in Sony's last fiscal report, brings the PS4 up to 86.1 million lifetime sales
:unimpressed:
