A single downvote leads to a piling-on effect and dissent within subs is not tolerated, by design. After 5 or 6 downvotes replies are hidden. Why? You must only say things that people like?

Each sub has particular "rules". Nothing worse than typing up a thoughtful OP, hitting "post," and then immediately seeing " this post has been removed." Certain words or phrases trigger an instantaneous deletion. These "rules" are esoteric and it's hard to know why, exactly, your post was removed

Sometimes I browse the NFL subreddit and 80% of the time I see an interesting title once I click on the thread the top comment is a corny pun or dad joke. Then everyone is responding to that trying to get their own jokes off. After scrolling for a while I can't even remember what the topic was

Sports "discussions" there are atrocious. There's one side that gets upvoted and the other side gets downvoted to hell even if they're making valid points. Some people get downvoted just for asking a harmless question. In the end no one is really saying anything compelling.

It's only smaller niche subreddits I find interesting but rarely do I even comment. Too much cac humor, passive aggressiveness, and overbearing mods.
