NYC
Most of my college friends are im Manhattan, Some lower east-side, some upper west-side. So im trying to be close to them. Im paying $1400 for rent now living in Florida and my income will be about $20k more a year in NY. I wont be bringing a car up but I may bring my motorcycle up, but I know parking is a bytch and nypd loves to tow motorcycle and scooters as a easy cash grab.

As long as your bike is licensed you'll be fine. The motorcycles that get snatched up are not licensed and stolen.

You can get a spot in Jersey and commute to the city with that 60k salary. You can find a 2 bedroom crib for like 1300 a month in a nice neighborhood and then take the train/bus into Manhattan. You can still keep you car and all of that. I’d do that too but I’m not trying to pay taxes for 2 states, and I’ve been driving since 17 so public transportation seems like downgrading but I’m still gonna look into it.

Well you'd be below the Area Median Income (AMI) for NYC (the metric used to determine who qualifies for subsidized housing) which is $73,100 for a family of one.

Those who make up to 30 percent of AMI are considered extremely low income; 31-50 percent AMI is considered very low income; 51-80 percent is low income; 81-120 percent is moderate income and 120-165 percent of the AMI is considered middle income.

You are on the low end of "moderate income" So it's certainly livable, but you ain't balling and will surely have to sacrifice in certain areas.

60k a year in New York after paying federal city state and NYC tax? You're going to have $3,500 in cash.

Rent and Utilities for your 400sqft studio - $1,700. :picard:
Riding the bus and train with homeless people -$100 :picard:
Food from dirty convenience stores - $500:picard:
Cell phone - $100
Highest Insurance -$125
Car -$175

So you now have $800 left, and you haven't saved any money yet, and if you have student loans you have to pay those too.:picard:

Literally half your money is going be going into someone else's pocket every month unless you live with a complete stranger and have a roommate. :picard:

Two complete strangers have to live together just to pay a rich man to use a room in a building he built. :wow:

Why regular people live on coasts makes no sense to me. I am going back out to Cali next month for a conference and will have just as much fun as people who live there, without being locked in a yearly rental contract for $25,000 cash.:yeshrug:

A one bedroom with around 650 sq ft in a newer building will run $1700-$2500 depending on location so that kills your cash flow pretty quickly

Even going off of what you’re saying that’s still an 800 dollar swing lol. Of course what you’re able to do differs with such a wide range. The nikkax that can do 2500 a month shouldn’t be n your mind if you can’t do it. There are other options..

2 bedroom
Elevator
Laundry in building

1950

With the extra room you could even rent out a room for someone with good credit and stable income

NYC is really what you make it

The trick with nyc is balancing the commute with ya rent. Do u prefer time or money?

If you prefer time. An apartment in a decent part of newark or surrounding area and you can take the train in and b in nyc in 20 min. But thats gonna run ya a lil more than id say staten island. Which depending on which area of the island ya on it could take 1.5 hrs to get to work.... but for price of a subway you can ride train and take free ferry over. North shore can get you to city in 35 min tho with cheaper rent than i normally found in jersey. Plus its quietter than other borroughs.

If you drive in 60k WONT be enough. Then again the drive is quick in morning but murder in afternoon going home so whats the poiny of driving anyway.

Get a roommate you'll be straight and can save a little bit if you're frugal with your spending.

60k with no kids you can live anywhere (except SF) in America, places like NYC/LA/DC you need a roommate but it's easy to find someone

NYC
Flatbush (your best bet)
Wash Heights
Crown Heights
The Bronx
East New York
Bedstuy
Upper Harlem (past 135th MAYBE)

Every other place you’re just asking to be pissed off based off listings alone

One bedrooms in Crown Heights go for $1500. A four bedroom on my block is going for $4000. It is not an affordable neighborhood. If you're not plugged in, you're going to have to move to a less desirable area.
