You can get a spot in Jersey and commute to the city with that 60k salary. You can find a 2 bedroom crib for like 1300 a month in a nice neighborhood and then take the train/bus into Manhattan. You can still keep you car and all of that. I’d do that too but I’m not trying to pay taxes for 2 states, and I’ve been driving since 17 so public transportation seems like downgrading but I’m still gonna look into it.

Where in Jersey is this? How long is your commute? JC and Hoboken aren't cheap.

One bedrooms in Crown Heights go for $1500. A four bedroom on my block is going for $4000. It is not an affordable neighborhood. If you're not plugged in, you're going to have to move to a less desirable area.

I have a tendency to forget Franklin Ave done went full on custard pie...my bad

Yes you can live on your own but unless you don't mind living in the hood you will be living very modestly. Most of those people who make between 50-70 will simply move to Jersey in most cases.

It depends on your definition of livable. I know there are plenty of minimum/low wage workers in NYC and none of them are living on the streets.

so 60k should be more than enough to survive in NYC or any city for that matter. If pizza delivery guys, fast food workers etc manage to survive on their low wage then what's anyone's excuse for not making 60k work?

New Yawk where I’m from / Bahston where I’m at
Been 8 years since I left NYC, when I was looking 10+ years ago people were apartment hunting with bank checks on hand ready to drop first month / last month / 3 month security deposit immediately to avoid losing out.

Brehs in NYC now, may be helpful to describe if rental market more or less competitive now?

Is it livable outside of the city and commuting in? :lupe:

It is enough to sustain a place in some locations in Brooklyn, Queens, and Harlem. If you want a bit more cash in ur pocket, I recommend getting a roommate. Especially if ur still paying of student loans. NYC isnt that expensive to live in but we are currently going through gentrification heavy so its best if u secure a place quickly

I make just around that and live in the Bx by myself. And I have disposable income to blow.

No. You will need roommates. I make north of 90K and I stress out about finding an affordable place that isn't the size of a closet that will allow me to save money while paying rent. I don't see myself living here in the next couple of years.

How the fukk are you making that much and still struggling :what:. Your budget or financial decisions must be trash.

Before I got that job, I had stretches of unemployment and freelance gigs. My money is just starting to look good. You see one thing without actually knowing my background or responsibilities.
