Is 60k a livable salary in New York City?

That's about $3000 a month after taxes. You'll probably need a roommate but I don't know New York rent prices. Probably could go car-less too so that would help.

What are your school loan repayments looking like?

My random guess is that you'll have about $1000 in discretionary money to play with for a month.

I’m still in the grace period but I believe they’re $121 a month.

Not bad. I was at $250 a month :mjcry:

Wish I could help more but I don't know Jack about New York City rent or what is a feasible commute there.

Again going car less is huge too since you don't have to do car insurance, monthly payments, gas , and maintenance.

My mom pays for all that :wow: but I probably would get rid of my car because driving in nyc seems anxiety inducing.

Well damn if you got it like that than I say go for living in the city. I'd bump your discretionary money to $1500-$2000. If you can cook even better. Try the roommate thing out for a year. It sucks but your young (I'm assuming). Matter fact find a nerdy roommate that doesn't do drugs :francis:

Eh, it’ll be very rough. You can even move to shytty Bridgeport, CT, take an hour train ride and you’ll still at $2000 a month for a one bedroom. That’s $24K a year in rent alone. After taxes you’ll only have $21K for everything else.

I guess it’s doable, but it’ll be very rough. I had a friend live with 2 other people in Brooklyn 10 years ago and she was just making $55K. Her parents had to pay her rent. :francis:

No. You will need roommates. I make north of 90K and I stress out about finding an affordable place that isn't the size of a closet that will allow me to save money while paying rent. I don't see myself living here in the next couple of years.
Where do you live? :dahell:

I only see these closed sized overpriced apartments in trendy and gentrified areas.

Yes you can stop listening or reading shyt from out of towners or boujie new Yorkers who think Manhattan or Brooklyn is the end all be all. You not gonna be living in some wack ass luxury apartment that they over hyping but there are parts where it is working class neighborhoods where rent for a 1bd doesn't go over 1500
