People forget they outspend everyone by like 30 million that season and had the #1 record in the NBA before Dirk got hurt. They also had some other major injuries but that team was so fukking deep, especially in that era.

That Mavs team forever changed the NBA. They had the best zone defense in the NBA till that point. Atlanta and Golden State had better zone defenses years later and the center position was forever changed. It forced Bron and everyone to get an extremely reliable three-point shot and put a premium on spacing which Miami added shortly after that Mavs lost. The reffing that series was bullshyt. They called everything on the Heat but then again, the Heat got good treatment v. Indy, SA, and OKC in future seasons. The NBA is kinda fixed, to be honest.
