its so hard to get through the first half though
Still on S1E6, I've relegated this to weekly watches in hopes it would make it easier to get through.

Towards the later episodes there is some filler but when they finally cut the shyt and get down to business.........Just finished episode 9 of season 2.
My feelings for season 2 have cooled off significantly. Definitely a lot of filler this season as well.
Breh. This isn't high art, they pretty much hit you over the head with everything.Filler? You sure you are catching/understanding everything that is going on?

I understand everything completely. It's just not that great. It's well made, finely acted, but it's still nothing deep going on here. Some cat and mouse games, random killers that they try to loosely tie a connection to hannibal with.
I even notice when they do nods to the movies and books as I've read and seen them all. This isn't some new concept to me.
it's been dancing with cancellation.
It hasn't though. Even if NBC drops it several other networks and online places like Amazon, etc. were gonna pick it up. The chances of it being completely cancelled are slim to none.
Fred.
Theirs a difference between liking a show and people claiming it's the best show currently on.And the idea of liking a show just because it's on the verge of cancellation is absurd. nikkas just can't like the show?
Both seasons could easily be condensed into 8 episodes and nothing would be lost, it would actually improve it dramatically. When I think of filler, I think of scenes and maybe side stories that have nothing to do with the overall arch of the season. Everything that took place in Season 2, from my recollection, affected the overall arch of the season, an episode 9 is a pretty significant turning point to the cat and mouse game between Hannibal and Will.
Theirs a difference between liking a show and people claiming it's the best show currently on.
It's not even close.
I do like the show, it's passable. But it's nowhere the quality of mad men, game of thrones or true detective etc.
People have a tendency to over hype shows that are on the fringe to bring more attention to it. Wether subconsciously or not, they do.
It's a good show, but it's not great. It's a B tier show.
The first two seasons of Dexter are better.
If this show came out in the 90's it'd be sonething to talk about. People saying shyt like you've never seen anything like this on tv before is kinda embarassing considering it's very comparable to Millenium which came over 15 years ago.
Another problem is I'm well verses in Hannibal lore. So the show has zero suspense really.
That's fine. But at the end of the day it's got no suspense. It's got almost zero character development. Theirs no depth. It's got one main arcing story line filled in with killers of the week. Theirs very little going on in the show as far as plot which is why I'm laughing at responses to me like "you must not be paying attention" like it's A terrence Malick film. It's a very basic show. This obsession with every showing having to be some deeply metaphorical shyt is infuriating
This seems to be a recent trend, and stems from people trying to break down every single frame of Breaking Bad and True Detective looking for hidden meaning and callbacks and easter eggs and metaphors and clues etc etc etc. Game of Thrones would probably be the same way but the existence of the books kind of defeats that purpose. The presence this type of shyt can enhance a show, but it is not a requirement and its mere existence does not necessarily mean the rest of the show is any good.
Whatever happened to enjoying a show for what it is? Hannibal is based on a book about a deranged serial killer who is incredibly intelligent. Thats what this show is about.
It is the most beautifully filmed show on network TV, and probably on TV period with only GoT contending. It has some of its tension deflated because we know the general outline of the story already due to the source material, but still manages to add some back into the mix with its side characters not always following source material. The writing can be basic in spots and brilliant in others. Some episodes can be thought of as filler with a killer of the week, while others advance the main plot or branch off important subplots. There are ups and downs, but faaarrrr more ups than downs. Just like any show ever in existence.
Hannibals ratings and the amount of people giving up on the show suggest the contrary to what you're preaching. The season threads on here are doing animal ambition numbers. And why can't they say that it's the best show currently on if they truly believe that? You're suggesting that there's something wrong with people for loving this show, but when it's acclaimed by critics and loved by it's fans, then doesn't mean that maybe there's something wrong with you?
I mean I personally feel that True Detective and Game of Thrones were kind of unsatisfying near the end there, but I'll let you cook tho.
