For real though, OP does have a point that people keep giving him false expectations. On that whole "it all comes together" and "it all pays off" or "you are missing something" steeze........the show really aint deep like that, and it aint supposed to be. There is a lot of psychological mind fukking, but that don't mean its got these layers of intertwined mystery that all need tied together. His main beef is the killer-of-the-week shyt, and that is a legit beef. I share the same gripe with the show, and I have been watching since day one, no binge-watching for me and therefore no skewed notion of the actual plot pacing we have been presented with.

I truly think the show is the 2nd best on TV behind only Game of GOAT, but to portray it as something it is not causes unobtainable expectations and gives us an elitist vibe

Hannibal is a fantastic piece of stylized violence and psychological fukkery, its brilliance is in how the story is portrayed on screen, not in the story itself. It is a story we all know in other forms.

There are so many little touches that won't be appreciated by someone searching for something that isn't there. The metaphors present aren't that earth shattering (stuff like Will fly-fishing and the recurring man-stag hybrid).

Now.....after all that rant.....the point still remains that the show is amazing and if you don't like it your opinion is shyt.:yeshrug:

I'm not doubting hannibal would be picked up if its cancelled but do you actually have some proof to your comments about it being so sought after? I googled and saw nothing except hundreds of articles talking about the show being on the cancellation bubble. With fans conjecting they hope it gets picked up by someone else.

See, this I can 100% agree with and I think you understand where I'm coming from.

I've already stated I like the show. I'm not out here calling it hot garbage because it clearly isn't.

I've already stated several times its well made and finely acted.

but people gave me such high expectations that I just walk away from it like, thats it? Thats really it?

If my expectations hadnt been so pumped up I'd probably be over hyping it just like a bunch of other people.

I dunno who gassed him up to think this was a super serious look at serial killers....all I've ever said about this show is it's :krs: shyt nonstop. So I dunno if he had a preconceived notion, or maybe somebody misled him. I dunno.

And the killer of the week shyt ain't really a legit gripe, considering the whole Hannibal/Jack/Will dynamic in the novels is based around them catching serial killers. It's just stretched across 2 seasons instead of a novel or two.

agreed.

i came into season 1 with a very skeptical mindframe. i mean, come on, NBC? :mjlol: :mjlol:

season 1 was hit or miss for me, with some amazing episodes (chesapeake ripper first one :ohlawd: ) but mostly weak side villains and killers of the week.

season 2 was dope almost all the way through, especially the second half.

if you watch the show with the amount of hype it has now from a very vocal, though small, fanbase, you might have different reactions

expectations are everything :yeshrug:

Bryan Fuller spoke on it after season 1, and season 2. He said they received multiple offers both times, from various cable outlets, and places like Amazon, etc.

Side note:

NBC doesn't make the show. A foreign company does, and NBC pays a small licensing fee. So that's why ratings don't matter. It's also why people would jump at the chance to scoop it up....they'd essentially be paying pennies on the dollar for a critically acclaimed show.

Thank god for all these services nowadays. Even if a show gets cancelled it can get closure from someone else. Truly the goat era of tv we live in.

Except when you're arguing for breaking bad.:lolbron:

Nah for real though I didn't even comment on here about "BB" winning at the Emmys last year. I don't fukk with mainstream award shows at all breh, but that has nothing to do with this show or thread.

It is a legit gripe because they could easily stretch out killers over more episodes. Quite a few of them were basically one and done killer of the weeks. It just felt very csi/law and order at times. True detective and even luther handled it better.

You can't tell me with a straight face that season 1 couldnt have easily been trimmed to 6-8 episodes without losing anything noteworthy.

Maybe it could've been....but :manny: I didn't mind it.

And the serial-killer-of-the-week shyt isn't for any other reason but to show off their "murder tableauxs". They put a lot of thought into creating a :what::whoo: murder scene, it's just the kind of show it is. I like it, some people don't. :yeshrug:

You stated yourself that you are well versed in the Hannibal universe, so knowing the showing was primarily based on that material, just what exactly was your expectations going in? And reading through the Hannibal thread I'm not quite sure where the show was misrepresented in any way or form. If you don't think this show is up there with Game of Thrones, Fargo, True Detective and the likes then its hard for me to take your opinions seriously. The only legit gripe I have even heard you state was the "killer of the week" shyt from season 1, in which most people agree with and most people would say Season 2 is a lot better than Season 1 because of that. But the killer of the week shyt was pretty much deaded in Season 1, and Season 2 is where the show really takes off and it ends with one hell of a finale so after finishing Season 2 just what are your gripes with the show going forward?

Hannibal's finale is up from last year's and is doing better numbers than Mad Men's :flabbynsick: numbers and was every bit as acclaimed if not more :umad:

And thecoli stans trash ass Ray Donovan and Tyrant so page views mean nothing to me :manny: It seems like your attacking the fans for loving it instead of attacking the show, and that's my main gripe with your line of reasoning.

I gave it a shot. Dudes in here were hyping it up so much. The show is solid, I'll give it that. But Season 2 was by no means great. I mean, it wasn't all that different from the 1st. Yes, they stopped the killer of the week episodes and all that. And yes, Will Graham's plight changes because of the corner he's backed into, but for the most part it was business as usual. I'm not saying the show is bad. Not by any means. It's definitely solid. And Mads Mikelsen hits the ball out of the park as Hannibal. He is easily just as good as Anthony Hopkins when it comes to depicting the character. But the show itself.....I could take it or leave it. If they had ended it after Season 2 I wouldn't even be mad.
