The show reminds me A TON of Millenium. They even had the star lance henriksen guest star, a huge nod to the show.

Season one was nothing special on any level.

Season one was passable. Enough to keep me watching barely but not enough to praise.

The second half of the first season, through to the end of the second season is damn near a totally different show quality wise.

I'd say there must be a different experience binge watching in adverse to week to week but I doubt it. This is currently the best show running IMO, and like @hexagram23 stated the second half of season 1 is when the show really gets going, the second season is magnificent. I mean I can understand some people will just have different opinions, but if you are a TV watcher, I don't see how you can't appreciate the second season which probably has a top 5 season finale.
The only current show I would maybe put above it is "Fargo". And even then the season 2 finale of "Hannibal" is still the best episode of 2014 so far IMO.

I was waiting until I was finished the season but....
Season two is MILES better than season one. It's like a completely different show. Now, I'm only four episodes into season two but if it keeps it up and the season finale is as good as being said then I'd give it 9-10/10.
Keep in mind, i'd only give season one a 5-6/10. I'm sorry but the second half of season one is just not that great and not much better than the first half. Don't expect any grandiose connections to the killers. It's a formulaic killer of the week borefest with a very slight upswing in the last couple episodes. Power through it and the reward of season two is worth it.
For those that do like season one, I suggest millenium. It was directly inspiered by movies like seven and silence of the lambs.
Its about an fbi profiler who can see through the killers eyes just like graham can. He also didnt actually work for the fbi and was assisted by the millenium group who turn out to be evil. So, its pretty much like hannibal, just as gruesome and came out in the 90s.
Its probably why Im not a fan of season one of hannibal as i felt id seen it before in millenium.

"Millennium" is dope as fukk, and the season 2 episode "Somehow, Satan Got Behind Me" is one of the GOAT hours of TV in history.

True, graham was in a book long before millenium was made and was no doubt the inspiration for frank black.
Just finished episode 9 of season 2.
My feelings for season 2 have cooled off significantly. Definitely a lot of filler this season as well.
I'll hopefully finish the season this weekend coming up. At this point I feel like people are over hyping the show because not many people are watching it and it's been dancing with cancellation.

Grinded through both seasons based off the hype here and i gotta say I was a little disappointed.
