Meet the Grahams was unconventional too.

We never had that type of diss track where they broke down the family dynamics in such the way that K Dot broke it down. It was like a therapy session.

Even Mase said to him that was when the battle turned and it seemed like he was really feeling that diss out of all of them.

That was some corny Em type shyt...pass

Y'all would've called Aubrey corny if he did that shyt to Kenny

Ether is the best diss of all time & it ain't close

The title Ether had a deep meaning within itself...Ether breaks down coke...the diss Ether broke down the coke rapper

Nas broke down all of Jigga's insecurities bc Carm told him quite a bit...insecurities about his looks, his rise to fame, his fighting abilities/tough guy antics, his standing in the rap game, selling out, etc...

Cube was the #1 rapper when he dropped No Vaseline...Nas reaffirmed his standing in the game with Ether

What was the gossip/fact ratio for Hit Em Up....

The most damaging parts of that song were the analysis of Drake as a man, and his family. Same with Story Of Adidon. Both broke down who he is as a person and why he's a loser. In terms of the gossip I will ask you this: in the (likely) event that we learn Drake has a daughter/other children, will that change your mind about the record?

I agree I'm not ranking any Kendrick track above most of the disses discussed in this thread yet. Recency bias has to be taken into account. That being said you DO have to see that at least a couple of these records will be ranked very favorably in the future right. Not Like Us alone is gonna be in the top 10-15 one day. The hottest rap song in the world being a diss song, with crowds around the globe clowning Drake for weeks with no end in sight...that's a historic level W for Kendrick that will be acknowledged.
Pac spoke on his personal account with Faith. Wasn't really gossip the shyt was just scathing and it's prolly THE most recognizable diss record of all time. shyt was pure fury on record with a dope beat. Not Like Us is decent as a bop but nikkas is overdoing it. Hip Hop was more culture based in the 90s than it is now. Meaning now there's people who don't really follow hip hop thats gonna be exposed to the shyt based on the way information travels. Corporations getting involved also add to it as well. Meet The Grahams ranking would indefinitely go higher in my rankings if he really had a daughter cause I already ranked it high within this battle. As of right now tho? shyt is just a bunch of chattin. Scathing. But still chattin.

Take away Interscope streaming manipulation and Not Like Us goes away. I have yet to hear anyone playing it in real life. I don’t live on the West Coast, so it’s not hitting like that. It’s a regional record.

All of sudden charts matter, but the numbers that Drake put up on non-diss tracks were called fake and didn’t mean anything :mjlol:

No Vaseline is a classic diss record that hit a lot harder.

Of course Kendrick fans are now going to jump out the window and call Ice Cube a c00n and bring up everything except rap music.

Dog, you gotta stop with this delusional ass nonsense you post.

You can go on social media right now and see "Not Like Us" getting played at clubs, strip clubs, parties, concerts....it played at Wanye's concert, for Christ sake....literally every where. It's the #1 song in Toronto, and you're telling us it's regional.

If you don't hear it outside you very obviously never leave your house. Stop with this dumb sh*t. I get that some of you are tight Drake is getting cooked but you are not gonna sit here and flat out lie to us. Knock it off.

No Vaseline was vicious

Cube ripped nwa to shreds. said they were house nikkas that moved out of compton , told them how they were getting f’d by their white jew manager & he makin more dough solo without them, told dre he wakk & stick to producing, said mc ren was a backup who was broke when he met him, clapped easy e,he destroyed them & dropped a classic top 5-10 album ever right after nikkaz4life

I more so meant it was in the same vein as those diss records mentioned.

"Not Like Us" is a club diss record, "Meet The Grahams" was a more conventional harsh diss record like "No Vaseline".

It doesn't make any sense to compare "Not Like Us" to "No Vaseline". It would be like criticizing "No Vaseline" for not being a hit. That wasn't the point of the song.

Not Like Us ain't the best "hit" diss record either. Neither is Back To Back. Or any of the shyt that dropped the last few years.

I don't think anyone is claiming it's the best hit diss record. But it's disingenuous to compare it to diss records which were never intended to be a hit in the first place.

"No Vaseline" could not even be made today and if it was it probably wouldn't do anything to Drake. The Jew sh*t alone would probably gain him sympathy.

It shouldn't be. I compare Not Like Us to something like Dre Day. Which it's still not better than. Def not better than Hit Em Up.

I wouldn't even compare it to that.

You can't compare it to anything from the 90's because rap now is 100x bigger than back then. A song similar to "Dre Day" would not be getting played at sporting events and strip clubs in 2024. Nor would it be a #1 hit.

The only modern analog to "Not Like Us" is "Back To Back".

EDIT:

Or "Dollars + Sense", if it was actually a mainstream hit back then.
