I was an engineering major before going to medical school. I visited Howard just because I lived close while in high school. Their facilities were trash, old smelly building, old equipments, I would not have chosen Howard if they gave me a full ride plus extra money. I visited again when I was applying to medical schools and it was the same problem, old decrepit buildings. Even their administrative offices is like stepping into the 70s. Not to mention they horrible when it comes to communication and paper work. There is literally no redeeming quality about this school besides wanting to be around other black students.

The smart choice is to save ones money and go somewhere else.

I went to Howard and this is all :stopitslime: Some things you said about Howard have truth but, the rest is vindictive and it makes you sound biased. When I went to Howard, my best friend went to Georgetown across town. I spent every other Fri/Sat night at Georgetown with my boy spending the other weekends at Howard. Outside of a few examples, I never felt that our buildings were old/smelly/run down. If anything, I was less impressed by Georgetown as it's considered the best school in DC and to me it felt small. I've also visited alot of other colleges throughout the East Coast. Howard's facilities are far from trash. As far as your other points, there are several companies that only recruit from top colleges but, will come to Howard. For example, I was raised in Delaware. The major university here is the University of Delaware. Google and Goldman Sachs are not coming to the University of Delaware for recruiting events. They're just not but, they are coming to Howard. It's on you as a student to make the most of those opportunities and most of the people that I was friends with at HU did. I have two friends at Google, one at JP Morgan, one at Goldman, one at Moody's. It's anecdotal but, that's my circle.

The only thing I agree with you on is the tuition and the administration. The administration sucks ass, no argument. But for the former?......I personally was on scholarship so it made little difference to me. I only agree because even though Howard is full of privileged students from high-income households, there were probably alot of poor kids there taking out loans who probably should've gone to a cheaper school. In short, if your parents can pay or if you have a scholarship/great FA package, Howard can open doors for you that only a top 40 school can. It punches well above its weight. But if you're not well off or will have to take out a bunch of loans, then go to your local in-state school.

I don't agree with your comments about white people not respecting the degree....sounds like self-hate.

FAMU did a study on this a while back (talking pre-COVID) and the percentage drop was relative to Black men at PWIs too. I'd like to see if there's any notable difference since then.
Not shocked. If you aren't special, you probably shouldn't be at school and if you aren't, you better work your tail off

Oh no a trade off that significantly hampers people in life with debt that you can't get rid of until you pay it off or die

White corporations will never change. They will recruit from HBCUs to land the top Blacks. I don't even think it's smart and be Black going to anything less than an Ivy or a HBCU unless you are a serious athlete which you get special privilege

Pretty sad. I was reading a book on marriage and childhood and this white woman, an economist, noted less men attending college and how it's affecting the country. She stressed the Black boys & men face more obstacles due to systemic racism combined with America simply not caring for them. It's going to bubble over soon.

Light cap. I don't know about the smelly part but let's just say back in the day on them campus tours there was a reason they only took nikkas to the school of B and up on the yard :umad:

Take a school of C chick into the engineering building and she hitting the :picard:

Buddy talking like Howard is an underfunded school for homeless kids. SMH. It's nowhere near as bad as he made it sound.

I brought up Georgetown for a reason as I got to explore 70% of the school and many of their buildings look similar inside but of course, for them, it's historic but for us, it's old/smelly/run down. With that said, The School of Communication is dope too :youngsabo:

Howard is a pretty bad university and not worth the money. Cost of undergraduate attendance is $64k, most people will still be on the hook for $45k per year after financial aid. Howard is not worth going into $200k in debt for a weak undergraduate degree.

And at 18, MOST — like 99.9% of kid don’t get the economics of school.

If school isn’t for you, hop on those trades and use those 4 years to get rolling in the workforce. $200k is real bread and looking back I’d rather use that for a startup.

At the corporate level of course the school situation matters but under the surfaces it’s politics, bullshīt, favoritism, racism and then corporate culture that gives Squid Games a run for its money.

A whole other chunk of this game is connections and networks that flat out doesn’t exist for the bulk of us because if it wasn’t there growing up it won’t magically show up unless an over sibling of cousin — at the corporate level — throws you an alley oop

They're living off the name/legacy. Why go to a school like Howard when you can go to another school and get a degree for much less money. The cost of college is already crazy so imagine going to a school like Howard and getting crazy debt just to say you're a "Howard Man."

College enrollment in general for men of all races except probably Asian(East Asian, West Asians) is down, though.

Or they can go to the local community college and take the basics until they figure out what to do. You can still live at home with your family and it's much cheaper. I always advise young guys with that option or a trade school if they're really unsure about what to do with their lives after high school.
