it took 40 replies 'fore someone gave me what i was looking for :wow:

i could've done without your little snide remark though at the end there, big man :mjpls:

Since you at planet fitness do some Bulgarian split squats to complement the smith machines because stabilizing muscles are a huge part in everything I mentioned.

Damn near the same benefits as squats if done properly and no real strain on your lower back like that.

pretty much. lol. who says squats help you lose gut? I never heard that.
Increasing muscle mass will in theory make you burn more fat while resting (don't know if it's an important amoint or negligible). Leg muscles are probably you biggest muscle groups (quads, glutes, hamstrings) so working them would increase muscle mass big time.

i keep seeing this. base/foundation. what does that even mean? that i wont be strong in other lifts without it? that's horseshyt, i'm already strong in other lifts without it

You might have weight room strength when it comes to specific lifts, but without legs and core you will never have functional strength.

But at the end of the day, you gotta do what you think is best. If being a beast up top and having legs like snoop dog is what you want, then go with it.

this 100x. as someone recovering I feel I am qualified to speak in great deal on this. you dont know what you had until its gone. I dgaf how strong your upper body is, if you have no lower body strength you cant do shyt really and have to make your upper body work twice as hard. most of you wont understand because you havent gone through what I have but right now, opening a heavy door is a task because I dont have the lower body strength back yet.

What happened to you breh?

You need squats of some variety for strong hips, legs and glutes especially. You don’t have to repping 4 plates or anything, and it’s doesn’t even have to be back squats. There are numerous options.

But don’t listen to anyone who says cardio is enough unless it’s high intensity hill sprinting or pushing a sled.

Squats and deadlifts are some of the most important and beneficial lifts you can do.

In general terms though, identify what exercises you hate doing. Those are the ones you need to do. Not so much the ones you love doing (which I guess for most guys is curls and bench press).
