A fleeting childhood
for just legs or everything? 'cause i've seen some scrawny motherfukkers that can squat WEIGHT. if i wont get bigger all round it can kiss my ass :manny:
Dead lifts are gonna work more muscles. Your entire posterior chain worked with squats. I prefer front squats tho as it’s easier on the knees for me. And those guys you see squatting are squatting for numbers in lower rep ranges. If they drop the weight and triple the reps per set, their legs gonna get larger (if in a calorie surplus)

2 plates is still 225 on the smith, the smith only assist in balance, but you still have to lift the full brunt of the weight...

I suppose.

It's weird though because if you unlock the bar on a Smith machine it will fall extremely slowly unlike a 45 pound ball in free fall

You don’t need to squat at all. Don’t let anyone tell you that you NEED to do it.

But you do need to hit legs. That’s the base of your strength. Google some squat alternatives and start hitting it. Maybe after 6 months revisit the back squad and see how you like it.

squats are very important, take it from someone who is recovering from nerve damage and atrophy below waist. your thighs and glutes control a lot more than you think and it goes down in to your knees which is my biggest issue currently. I could barely walk a few months ago. still have a ways to go. I wasnt really squating much before I went down but I squated fairly regularly in my lifetime. I was never injured or had pains from squating. the key is to have good form and not try to overdo it with the weight. you dont need much weight. like all that 400lbs and shyt is for if you competing. 225 is more than enough.
