I trust your judgement usually but to me it seems like he was irrelevant until those Knicks series...and during the time he played he had MJ, Drexler, Dumars, Mitch and I want to say someone else...

To me he was the same level of player cj McCollum or brad Beal are now...he wasn’t a stellar defender or scorer but an outstanding shooter but sometimes I think who was the focal point him or Smits...Reggie Miller is one player who would thrive in today’s game.
Hell naw...
Maybe they can be, but they haven't proven it yet...

Reggie could've averaged more points if he wanted to be all up in the videos (don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he couldn't have been more aggressive), except it generally would've come at the cost of offensive flow and team efficiency; stopping other players from getting into rhythm, getting theirs, and offensive functionality. His value wasn't just in his scoring, it was the ability to manipulate defensive schemes (not too dissimilar to what Steph does now) to open up the floor for easier scoring opportunities for his teammates. I could understand your argument if he controlled his team's possessions and dominated the ball, and yet still didn't average high scoring #s, but he scored within the flow of the offense when his team needed him to, not when he wanted to.

It's similar to how Duncan could've averaged more points throughout his career, but understood what benefitted the team more.
I don't give credit for hypotheticals. Duncan showed he could put up the big numbers while leading his team to big success so we at least knew he was capable of it. Who cares if he could have scored more he didn't? If you admit him scoring more would've hurt the team how great was he really?

And it's not like I said Reggie was a shyt player. He was damn good. Saying someone isn't hall of fame level isn't shytting on them. The point is even for his gravity and the way his shooting could open up the offense he also had the benefit of having an offense designed around getting him those looks. He's not a player you could've gave the ball to and let him create his own offense. He was bad on D. He could not create shots for others. All that matters, otherwise we'd have been hyping Kyle Korver as one of the best players in the league as well.

nikkas saying he overrated is tripping. Put Reggie in this era and he'd still be an All Star. Windshield wiper on offense, off them screens like Klay and Rip.
I don't think anybody disagrees that he'd be an all-star in today's games. It's when people refer to him as a superstar or first ballot HOF that causes people like me to call him overrated. On the right team he'd be an all-star every year. But it'd have to be the right team. In nearly 20 years he only made the all-star team 5 times playing in a weak era for shooting guards. He's not the type of talent that would make a team a top team, so unless he played with the right roster he'd be a hit or miss all star.

Funny thing is that he was one of my favorite players growing up. Still want to throw hands with the dude that stole my Reggie jersey from me. Let him borrow that shyt and the nikka moved to a new city within a week.

Most people are going to think Reggie was annoying or only know him from those 8 points in 9 seconds against the Knicks. . But Reggie was very good. Clutch as hell, 90 percent free throw shooter, Could shoot from anywhere on the court, skinny as hell but could actually drive to the basket. Constantly moving, coming off screens. Guys like Rip Hamilton patterned their game after Reggie

The problem is that the era of the athletic 2 guard makes you forget about Reggie. Mcgrady, Kobe, Vince, Wade, Iverson. Hell even Ray Allen could dunk on you from time to time. If you wanna go early 90s, Jordan and Drexler too.

Overrated. Definitely not a first ballot Hall of Famer. The Basketball HOF is easily the worst of the four sports because of how lax the requirements are to get in.

Reggie got in on the second ballot though.

See, this Reggie is overrated thing has got out of hand even though there's no way they should have bumped Drexler out of the top 50 to add him.

Not sure why people are all over the place with him. 2005 is not that long ago. He retired at 39 as a still relevant basketball player that led his team past the Paul Pierce Celtics in the playoffs and took the defending champion Pistons to six games. He had 30 point games against D.Wade, Lebron, Kobe...etc in his last year. He was still able to drive to the basket. While way past his offensive peak (which was 89-93, imo), his game was intact enough for even a child to gauge what kind of player he was at that point.

How? Lillard and Conley fighting to be an all star. Being an all star back then was easy

Beal is much better than you giving him credit for. He is a 2 way player but he is not a #1 option for a winner. Reggie knew how to win games.

Youtube clips and wikipedia stats is where brehs is making their arguments :snoop:

Reggie was a great player, plain and simple
He wasnt a “great.” “Greats” at least get in the top 10 of the MVP voting for a season. He was a good player who played in the league at its most watched on a team that orbited the best player in the world.

He wasn’t half the player Mitch Richmond was.
