:wow: @ leaving your keys in. When I was an ignorant drunk I always took my keys out when I passed out in my car :takedat:

You know the thing that got me if I recall was initially I got out the car to check my tire, I'm pretty sure I got back in and left the keys out but just being drunk it's hella cold out and put my keys in to put the heat/ac on. :beli:

Just get a good lawyer and you will be surprise what you can do. I caught a DUI a couple years ago. BAC was twice the limit and going 30 mph over the speed limit.
Kept it off my record, no insurance raise, no suspended license, no points on my license at all, and got the speeding dropped.

Fill me in a bit more breh. What helped your case? Did you have any special circumstances to keep it off the record? AA and comm service?

You gotta soldier through OP, I caught a DUI in college and basically had to work it off. Very expensive. My lawyer saved me from having to jump through hurdles with the court, but definitely didn't get me off. I blew 2X the legal limit too...

Be sure to know exactly what the charges are, the penalty and keep ALL of your legal papers. Get it expunged after awhile. shyt is dark now, but you'll bounce back.
Did u have to have a breath test to start your car or get your liscence suspended? I'm cool with the suspension tbh, I can do 90 days without. But 2 years? 180? Or a year?

I really can't handle that with everything riding in my last couple semesters of college.

I had 0 points on my record at the time. I put a breathalyzer in my car and attended a 12 hour alcohol class before I even went to court.
Th prosecutor was impressed so I just had to admit fault in court and do 40 hours of community service/pay a fine and they gave me probation before judgement and left it at that. This was in Maryland tho

dude, get a f*cking good lawyer and follow his advice, everything else is moot

spend the $ for a good one, trust me its worth it

THIS

Just make sure you don't get in trouble for anything else while all this is going on. Another DUI or an arrest for something else stupid will get you jailtime

You can fight this. You're going to need a lawyer and about 10k to do so though. I'd fight it on the grounds that I wasn't operating the vehicle when I was arrested. My friend was driving, hit a curb, got a flat and went for help. I was just sitting in the car until he got back.

And I thought everyone knew the rules by now. If you have been drinking and get pulled over DO NOT

Admit to having any drinks that day
Do the field test
Blow
*If you have an open container in the car pour that shyt into the floor
*Also never pay for drinks using your credit card

They will arrest you, they will get a court order to do a blood test and your license will be suspended for at least a year. If you are sober enough to remember those things, by the time the blood test comes and goes hopefully you'll pass that and only have to deal with a suspended license for a year. Better than the contrary.

Honestly if I lived outside of the city I couldn't attend parties that far away unless I was able to sleep over or spend the night in a hotel.

State troopers in several states would like nothing more than to ruin a Black Man's life.

Why risk it over a few hours of fun. Only attend parties that are either cheap to get a cab to and from or have a hotel nearby that is affordable where you can sleep it off.

Yeah OP, DUI is very expensive

I never had one but all my patnas have.
I'd say start going to some alcohol classes (on your own) to show the judge that you serious. Maybe your job will pay under a special plan (i forget what its called) but you dont even have to tell them, you call a 1-800 #

Also if they offer ANY plea to keep it off your record, I"d accept it. Whether it be a huge fine, weekends in jail, or both

If car was on, technically u were operating the vehicle. So it matters whether the car was on when the officer first encountered u.

Not sure what the laws are in ur state, but in NC, u blow over .15, u have to get a interlock machine installed in ur car and u lose ur license for one year after a conviction.

The facts are not great but, having an attorney speak with the LEO will help get what the basis of the "stop."

some places don't even need the car to be on. You just need the keys in the ignition and that's a DUI

You werent operating your vehicle. You should fight it on those grounds alone. You were legally arrested it sounds like but "keys were in ignition i think" means you were not driving and you WERE TOLD THE KEYS WERE IN THE IGNITION. Whos to say you were not driving, a friend was, blew the tire, and they left you in the car in a panic.

Fight this one.

In some states like North Carolina, if you're sitting in the driver's side of the vehicle even while it's not in operation...you can be cited and arrested for DWI/DUI if tested.

Made a dumb choice. Got blacked out drunk last night while I was out, and obviously made the decision to drive home which was about 15 miles away straight shot. Made it 14 miles and hit a curve a few blocks from my crib. :to:Popped my tire. I pulled into a lil shopping center parking lot and tried to sleep it off, but in my drunk stupor, I left my keys in the ignition and was pulled up on by a few cops. I'm certified dumbass.:leostare:

Apparently, I was 2x over the legal limit. SMFH :snoop: I could have killed someone. Gotta get my life right again, all this partying I do leads nowhere good time and time again.

Bro's who have caught a DUI, what do I do now? Obviously i want to avoid a major license suspension or having to have a breathalyzer on my car to drive.

Also, will hiring my own lawyer instead of a Public defender even help?

Thanks guys.

Man, you better get a DUI lawyer especially since you blew. That's the main evidence they have against you so you gotta be lawyer'd up.
