Santa Monica must have run out of creativity. Instead of copying Devil May Cry like the old games, they now copy every other 3rd person action adventure game in recent years. Semi-open world, over the shoulder camera, "Cinematic", slow combat that is nearing dark souls, crafting, leveling up.
Kratos was always a full blown cracker
