Why would they need to lock you off in a specific location?
From their POV it’s legit a pacing thing, rather than technical. From my POV they should be able to stream assets fast enough to avoid that kind of loading at this point on current gen games that don’t have to run on last gen at all anymore, and natively running off SSD, even if that means lower LOD. That’s inherent to consoles anyway.

But idc about being trapped in an area; my pet peeve is slowing my movement speed. I much preferred running full speed along the tree roots on PS4 GOW 2018 to shimmying and squeezing through shyt. I fukking despise forced walking sections. Just make the shyt a cutscene at that point

With the new SSD speeds they can move more data. But when you add 4k assets. Ray tracing, more detailed graphics, etc. Then it’s back to the same tricks in order to be able to load and render a level.

Those moments don’t actually help pacing, they exist to give the devs more control of where you are and when, and with that control they can add more detail into each individual moment.

Right, that’s why I said they should be able to, but it won’t change. The extra bells and whistles are why performance will never truly improve for more than half a gen. Too many ppl value a pretty picture more than a smooth experience

It's very overrated, it's good but pales in comparison to 2018.

Technically the only thing that is better is the combat system.
