The people who say all the time that Canelo isn't Jacobs and he can't pull off the same game plan as Jacobs should look at the flip side of this coin too. Canelo only struggled with out boxers so far who were picking their shots countered him at spots, were slippery enough... Golovkin doesn't fight like Lara or Trout (Mayweather too but I'm not sure I should include him cause he has beaten everyone...). In fact he is almost the opposite of them style wise. Canelo is closer to Danny Jacobs than Golovkin to Lara or Trout.

Yeah, Compubox :mjlol:

Idc about boxing statistics cause they are not as trustworthy as let's say team sports' statistics. Boxing is behind in time in this department. You have one person who counts every exchanges by the way he sees it. You don't know about this man's bias, preferences, etc... but you still take his "stats" seriously. Hell, we don't even know who the fukk counts it... :gucci: They know that nobody gonna start check them anyway... I can't wrap my head around serious boxing sites and journalists keep posting compubox as it would be some gospel. :why:
GGG used to have slightly better defense but partly due to his style he is always there to hit. Last day I defended him but now let's not get overboard. everyone in the boxing words know that he hasn't got a good defense and a copy pasted mini statistic from a guy I don't even know who the fukk is won't convince me or anybody else otherwise.
If anything Golovkin has +xy punchstat cause his opponents were mostly surviving and scared to throw up until his last 2 fights not because he would have a good defense. He does not have a good defense
.

:usure:

@GzUp is correct. If GGG did not have good defense, someone like even a Curtis Stevens or David Lemieux would've landed much more and at very minimum rocked him. He does have good defense, because he slips tons of punches....which he also did vs Jacobs as well. GGG also knows how to create space to reset his offense if need be. Basically, he's aggressive offense + his ability to slip punches while coming inside and stalking you = good defense. It's sort of Mike Tyson'ish/Joe Frazier'ish like how he slips punches on the way in to land a bomb on his own. If he did not have defense, he'd be tagged over and over and over, blocking punches with his face while coming in.....and that's not Golovkin at all.

GGG has good defense for someone who employs the style he does. He's not a Provodnikov or Matthysse or Maidana at all.

Compared to them yes he has but compared to them who hasn't? I wouldn't say he has a bad defense for his style but he isn't a JCC Sr. or Duran either.

Of course he needed some defense to even become a top fighter. I just don't think his defense is good enough if you compare it to other guys around his level.
The only time I was impressed by his defense was against Lemieux

on other fights there were two kind of scenarios

A: His offense functioned as his defense and his opponents didn't dare to throw they just wanted to survive.
B: When he faced more skilled opponents, they hit him without much difficulty.

He used to have better defense btw but he got older, maybe he started to believe in his power too much and he also stepped up (or got the opportunity to step up... depends on how you view it) in competition finally with the Jacobs fight.
On his last two outings and also against Monroe or Murray, Golovkin's defense didn't look that good. He was there to be hit against fighters with slower hands than Canelo he will also there to be hit against Canelo. :smugbiden:

I don't think Canelo has an A1 defense either but better than Golovkin's. Even when he invites opponents to throw on the ropes he doesn't seem to eating blow after blow. Of course he should not do that shyt against Golovkin though... But he doesn't always do it, for example he didn't do against Cotto, I think Canelo knows what's up...

GGG always in position to hurt you

This is true, but I think it wont be as big advantage as many will think...unless Canelo gets tired. If Canelo gets tired, then GGG's ability to be in position to land offense is very bad for Canelo.

GGG was able to continuously be in front and ready to land vs. Brook and Jacobs, but wasnt able to land the same as before. Why? Brook was quicker than GGG and it forced him not to be able to connect as cleanly as he usually does. Jacobs had the threat of ultimate power and more handspeed than GGG, so he knew he likely wasnt going to be first to the punch if it wasnt setup right and he wasnt willing to risk eating a punch like he did vs. past opponents.

I think too many GGG fans will be lured into the trap thinking that the pressure will be too much and will break Canelo. I dont think so. Canelo is a proven veteran now. It is one if the biggest reasons I think Canelo should get a top notch conditioning crew. The fight is favorable in many ways for Canelo...but if he gets tired and hasn't put anything on GGG to make him extremely cautious about coming in, that is where GGG can get Canelo in the danger zone.

I believe Canelos chance is with the uppercut. He has to hurt GGG or it's gonna be bad.. I don't know who wins but in order to stop GGG you have to open up and that's where it gets interesting..

not hurt but earning his respect to a extent where he won't just steamroll you.
He doesn't have to badly hurt him just has to be powerful enough to make him guessing a little. Canelo has enough power for that.

Monroe has less power and was still able to at least make GGG uncomfortable at times (especially when he went to the body).

I think Canelo will have enough power at 160 to at least give GGG something to think about coming in
