are jerry sigel and joe shuster the only people capable of writing superman? are bob kane and bill finger the only people capable of writing batman? should no one should be allowed to adapt stories based on these characters without the input of their creators?

and yes, plenty of people know star wars better than george lucas does. the prequels are tangible proof.

Lucas has let PLENTY of people come up with stories in his universe. We are talking about the EPISODES, the chapters in the Skywalker Saga. That came from Lucas's mind. He created that story. We've already gotten "Fan Fiction" or other made up stories for 30 years about Luke, Han and Leia. Been there, done that. This was about the creator's ideas of that future.

It's obvious Lucas is fine with other people adapting his work, he did that before the sale. But this isn't about "Nobody else should write Star Wars" this is about the creator of the franchise giving you a map and you not using it. That makes zero sense. It would be like George RR Martin and "Game of Thrones" selling his franchise and giving the new owners the next chapters and they threw that out. Or JRR Tolkin if he as alive giving Peter Jackson treatments for the Hobbit trilogy and he threw it out.

to a lot of people the prequels were fan fiction also. big budget, highly glorified fan faction... but still fan fiction.

jj abrams is a lifelong star wars fan and a talented filmmaker. lawrence kasdan wrote the screenplay for empire strikes back. the story is in very capable hands. there's no reason to think that they can't write a compelling continuation of the story, and there's also no reason to believe the story is only valid if it's coming from lucas himself when the prequels were completely INVALID.

cause he hasn't had any good ideas since 1983

I only quoted this again cause I did laugh when you posted it. But I have to correct you, he did have some good ideas after 83:

The HAVE to at least use his outline. Eps I-IX is Lucas' vision. Regardless of the rewrites, the dialog, the misses, the guidance and help along the way, this is his baby, and everyone acknowledges that. It's wrong not to honor his vision in closing. After these 3, you get to do whatever you want. There's only one horrible movie (Ep I) and that's only horrible because not a damn thing happened in it. "Group discovers the chosen one", was stretched into a 2.5hr movie.

I hope they don't go the reboot route.

fukk it, if he wanted to see his story he shouldn't have sold the rights.

Don't sell your shyt off and expect sympathy because you're not in charge anymore.

Some of the last few ideas Lucas had include jar jar binks, adding cgi bands in the original, choosing Hayden Christensen

Hayden Christensen is a extremely good actor it's not him it was the script and dialouge IT was garbage....

The dude can act his ass off... it's the script and direction which makes it horrible even obi-wan's character suffered...
