If you think Starfield flopped and then think FF rebirth performed well or even as expected...
Or they can take a deal and port to PC later. AAA games are expensive and FF fans don't really have an issue with Rebirth's quality as the reception suggest. This is a lower 90s game. Even the user reviews reflect that.Square the only 3rd part dev currently still taking these dumb ass deals.
If they can’t afford to make their own games then they should make some games they can afford

Users reviews don’t tell you shyt. Each FF game sells less than the one before it.
Taking a deal and porting to PC later hasn’t been helping them by reflection of each game selling less than the last and their investors having less and less confidence in their business.

I think you believe Japanese role playing games to be more popular than they actually are. It’s not surprising at all. The appeal isn’t there to the masses which is why Square has been dumbing these games down to semi-action based alienating a sector of the core fans.
Final Fantasy up until just this last game was a series trying to find an identity in modern gaming.
Japanese role playing games are niche. Outside of this series, Tales, Dragon Quest, and Persona these games struggle to get all that far past a million in sales. Some of those series have really just found their way past a million.
It just isn’t a super popular genre.
Most other JRPG franchises have been expanding their user base lately, Final Fantasy is going in the other direction.
