They are not bad games infact they are upper echelons of games it’s just that they were doing too much. I best remake twice but have yet to purchase rebirth. I saw a major spoiler on here by accident and was over it. Not to mention I played way too many RPG’s last year and am kind of burnt out.
But back to square and how they fumbled this bag
1st they decided to milk it for three games
The. it took almost ten years for the first installment to drop then you had people like my boy who no longer does console games but they stuck in the early 2000,s by making it a third party exclusive which would have almost been ok had they not excluded PC.

My boy was like I will just wait until all three games come out on PC before I jump in. And I couldn’t argue with him. Instead of milking FF7 three times they could have just remade it once and then remade a few other games. The sales would have been the same, but now you have even less hype for the final installment and more pressure for it to sale good which it won’t because if you ain’t buy the first two you aren’t getting the third.

Yea this was bad business, let this be a lesson to never ignore PC again

If only they had released on xbox, they would've moved another 1000 units. :mjlit:

BG3 and other games have proven people still will buy/play turn based games.

A true turn based FF7 remake woulda been lit AF:francis:
Rebirth "messed up" but will still win game of the year just like bg3 last year :dead:

Imagine thinking sales > quality, you might as well stop listening to hiphop and start being a swifty if thats what concerns you :scust:

It’s kinda ironic that Square abandoned turn based AAA games to make a more action heavy style because they say turn based won’t sell when their new style is failing them sales wise. They should try and go back to the original style for a game.

The problem is they are exclusives and a trilogy.

They should have picked one, If it was going to be a trilogy it needed to be on every platform possible at launch.

If it was going to be exclusive then they shouldn't have locked in with a # number and just done huge game that would have released towards the end of the generation that cost like 100 plus bucks.

They should be making a 3d gatcha turn based final fantasy to compete with HonKai Star Rail, that’s where the real ball drop is.

Naw, people were excited about the remake.

They just tried to milk it and sell 3 full priced games off that hype and people quit caring.

They could have made a simple remake something more like the resident evil remake games and it would have done great. Would have cost way less money to make, and they could have done it with a couple of the popular FF games just like RE.

But naw they chose to try to milk the FF7 hype for 10 years and 2(3?) different hardware generations.

Then on top of that they taking bags from sony to NOT build their audience elsewhere :smh:

Clear example of trying to be greedy blowing up in their faces :francis:
FF7 is my favorite game and I was ready to cop day 1 but once I heard it was going to be multiple games I said nah. I remember what happened with Advent Rising and Too Human so I decided I wasn't going to buy any of the remake games until the whole thing was completed. Especially with the way they been releasing the games. That was the biggest mistake they made imo.

Chasing trends and copying other publishers is why they took L's with games like Foamstars and Marvel Avengers.
They literally make rpgs and gatcha games based on said rpgs.

They should’ve had a final fantasy 3d gatcha like star rail out years ago. They jumped on the mmo trend with 11 at the right time but hoyo have ate their lunch when it comes to gatcha.

Oh I agree, people were excited for Remake; i'm more so saying they overvalued the scale of that excitement when the brand itself was giving (and imo would continue to give) shaky if not diminishing returns.
i.e.
Available sales info:
  • FF12 - 7.71mil
  • FF13 - 7.70mil
  • FF13-2 - 3mil
  • FF15 - 10mil
  • Remake - 7mil
  • FF16 - 3mil

and Rebirth is undisclosed, with speculation between 2-3.5mil, which is along the lines of the FF13 sequel.

In comparison, the Resident Evil mainline games sell for 10-15million a pop, mostly at 13ms. It's just a stronger brand right now.

That said, i don't disagree with you that their strategy to then milk it back fired and made ish worse.

as long as they make the third game i'll be happy.
Gamers will support 2K and all these pay to play type shyts while they get their pockets ran . but let real gems flop because they wanted all 200 hours of story in a single release. meanwhile they paying for roster updates and VC on the reg.

There are gaming gems out there, but this one isn’t it.

I totally get your point though.

Nobody asked for FF7 to be changed into whatever bullshyt this is. The reason 2K and Activision have the highest selling games year in and year out is due to familiarity. People want the same thing. People wanted FF7 with updated graphics. Not KH levels of fanfiction and anime sound effects from the characters who wont shut the fukk up.
