Thank you. Truly an intelligent poster. Anyone with a modicum of knowledge regarding the history of England knows it was an extremely religious country during its inception. Hell they even had an official religion! People act as if Christianty had no influence during the creation of the western world....
some WISH it didnt have any influence. thats the problem.
but you know what, the fact that you have people in the US that believes this is a tribute to the US' idea of freedom. people really believe this country was so free, that it was free from all religious based thought when coming up with rules/regs for this society. so with that said, we can all agree the US forefathers did a darn good job of selling "FREEDOM" to all of us.
YOu are only as free as what you've been taught/told/learned. if all you know is philosophy and chuuch. thats all you can run with. it baffles me how some can make this argument at all.
i mean how many "God this or creator that" do you need in your constitution? how many do you need in these states constitution. some of these dudes were bible thumpers to the nth degree. but at least they were not down with religious oppression per se. thats because they were being oppressed in their home country. its the same reason why black folks if we were to ever be in charge of the US or the entire world.. we would not oppress (In general) a bunch of white people or any other people. Since we've recently been oppressed, so we know how it feels. thats how it usually works.
now lets say this for the last time. when they spoke of CHURCH or RELIGION back then. they were really not talking about "ALL" religions.
They were talking about 2 things. NO Religion & Different Christian-esk denomiations.
So in context when you hear freedom of religion. they are not talking about freedom to practice islam. Sure you can make that stretch if you like. But thats not what THEY were talking about BACK THEN. It was a bunch of dudes that came from one country forcing them to be down with one denomination of Christianity and thats it. anything else and you catching heat. So they wanted to make darn sure they made up a country where people could shout in the pews or hum hyms quietly if they like. your choice, your church. thats what it meant. so of course these dudes would create laws based on that good book among other things. but those laws are inspired by the good book and religious things they were taught since they were kids. You only know...what you know.
