oh and get a locbraidout nikkas. once your locs are long enough and keep em for a month. if you never had your hair braided before like me they gon hurt like a bytch but once you take em down you got curly locs. and girls love curly locs idk what it is. you can take em down after a week if you wanted but the longer you keep em braided the longer they stay curled. water uncurls them but other shyt like oils work fine.

ALL TRUTH

I started back in November of 09. The woman who initially did my hair always used beeswax. I didn't think anything of it because i trusted that she knew what she was doing... flash forward a year later and my fukking hair is falling out like CRAZY just from washing it. It was basically as bad as this (minus the balding) -

DREADS GONE WRONG ! Severe Dread Repair - YouTube

My cousin owns a salon and she helped me out as much as she could, letting me know I shouldn't have used beeswax. After we washed out as much of it as we could, my scalp no longer itched and [what was left of] my hair looked cleaner, felt lighter, and was just flat out healthier :ahh:

Haven't had any breakage since then and by this Fall the length of my locs should be back to being relatively even again :ahh:

The BEESWAX didn't cause your hair to fall out...:wtf:

Look. I come from a family of Dreads. My Aunt got locks longer than her body.

I was probably the first cat to rock dreads in Bham. from jr. high in the early 90s until I was 23. My mom and punk ass daddy got dreads to the smalls of their back...and guess what, all started with beeswax.

Can beeswax build up, yes, absolutely, if you don't know what you're doing and use too much of the wrong product

See, you think all beeswax is equal and its not....

This again is the product of marketing and advertising..

Let you in on a lil secret..White companies own 95% of dread wax that is on the shelf and it is intended for straight hair as well

That's why the petroleum is added to raise the waxing properties of beeswax exponentially because that is what its gonna take to loc straight hair, basically white people's hair...because frankly, that's also the targeted demographic..

Me and my clan used 100% beeswax melted and mixed with 100% cocoa butter.

No wax buildup, excellent locking properties and nutrients for your hair and scalp. Combine that with aloe vera(from the stalk not the shelf) and coconut oil and you'll have the strong beautiful hair...

I aint knocking the newer methods\products to loc hair because quite frankly, they are impressive and making the process a lot easier..

But to dismiss beeswax as a locking method when its been used for at least 100 years is pure ignorance.

There is a shop around the block from were I live,
ran by muslims.
They have them in stock and in a large variety of colors.
I'll ask to see if they have a website,
or I can mail you one.

My homeboy out in VA put me on this.
Not only will it make, look and smell good on your looks,
it is good for your scalp and helps bring in new growth fast.

LOC N TWIST BUTTERS.
NEW AROMATHERAPY BLEND - THEY SMELL AWESOME!!! SAME GREAT INGREDIENTS !!!

Great for Locs and Natural twists style without Bees wax or any other wax that has a hardening effect on the hair and attracts dirt, lint etc.

Created with:
Shea, Kokum, and Aloe Butters
Carnauba Palm Plant Wax (consistency of honey), Castor Seed Oils, Vit E & Carrot Oil
Soy Lethicin (found in almost all "living" cells and is high in B vitamins and anti-oxidants- advanced softening and moisturizing effect and great for dry and dehydrated hair and skin), Cherry Kernel (contains natural antioxidants-alpha, delta and gamma tocopherols & vitamins A & E. Prevents UV absorbtion by forming a barrier on the surface of the hair and skin) & Sesame Oils. Silk Peptides, Proteins, and Amino Acids, Rosemary, Lime Verbena & Sage Herbs, Essential Oil – Fragrances.

GREAT FOR SCALP AND HAIR.
**DREADS/LOCS, TWISTS, BRAIDS,
NATURAL AND RELAXED HAIR** WILL
CONDITION, MOISTURIZE & REPLENISH WITH NATURAL CONCENTRATED INGREDIENTS - only small amounts needed per section of hair!!

TWO DIFFERENT CONFECTIONS YOU WONT BE ABLE TO PUT DOWN.

** GINGER CITRUS (self explanatory - Island style - lol)**

I prefer the Island style out of the two.

Co-sign your post.
I hate gels.
Gels would always harden my loc's to hard,
then crust and break into small pieces.
I hated that.
It never loc'd my hair as it said it should compared to using beewax.
The key to using beewax properly is mixing it with other right ingredients.
Great post sir!

If you're going to have your hair maintained in a shop I strongly suggest you get a stylist who has locks or at least had them for several years so they know the experience. It's the difference between a successful lock journey and a failed one.

I made the mistake of going to a different stylist twice when my main was out of town. She didn't have a professional setup; I'm over 6 feet tall and crouching over a kitchen sink to get my hair washed. Then she caked my hair in shea butter/honey while retwisting, and top it off the hair dryer only had two settings (high was way too hot and low didn't dry my hair at all). So I walk out of there looking like I still have shampoo in it for a full day.

Fast forward to when I go back to my main, there is so much gunk/buildup she had to a deep shampoo/condition twice and I lost alot of hair. At this rate I won't be able to get a braidout again until the summer.
