I remember being a club in D.C when a dude passed by me with the most rancid smelling locs I was like "is this how they do in Chocolate City?"
So I've been growing my hair out for the last 14 months or so and accumulated a good 7-8 Inches of hair. I'm getting a little tired of the soul fro and i'm about to switch it up to dreads. Tell me about y'all experiences with dreads, Maintenance tips, Misconceptions people may have had and the spiritual freedom being locked up has given you... Put a breh on to what I should expect.
Goon Lookin' out

The "ugly stage", or the "ugly phase" is inevitable, and unavoidable. You can mask it with a hat or something, but there's no getting past it unless you get weave or fake dreads.
Go the natural route, and climb that ladder to loc success.
nikkaz use way to much wax when they retwist and then blame the wax for the build up lol....i started wit wax early on shawty that twist mines used wax and gel and mine grew healthy n long ya heard me....
Dont listen to this nikka !
Do not put wax in your locks smh.
I use the locking gel.
April will make 3 years for me, it's kinda weird because I thought I was fly wit my ceasar but I've never been as comfortable in my own skin as I am wit dreads. I prefer the rugged look but going too long between rue twists caused alot of them the get thin at the root and break so I try to get twisted every 2 to 3 months. My only advice would be have patience and NO BEEZ WAX
I will warn you about this, as a black male dreads will put you in a completely different class as far as profiling
Loc'd up for almost five years. Contrary to popular belief, water IS your friend. Clean locs=good locs.
Let your hair breathe.
Don't over twist
Avoid products that have petroleum in them.
NO BEESWAX...if you use it
